Trailer Mechanic Trainee

Sweet Repair, a growing repair facility, is looking to add to our Kentwood, MI location. We are looking for a Trailer Mechanic trainee to assist in the trailer shop and do basic trailer repair to service the fleet of Sweet Express and Omni Transport. Sweet offers a full complement of benefits that start on the first of the month after date of hire.

Successful Trailer mechanic trainees will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

-Learning to diagnose and repair trailers, including preventive maintenance, inspections, repair to air brakes, tires, warrant procedures, and suspension with safety as top priority.

-Apply training to perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and repair orders. Applying and removing decals and compliance stickers.

• Training to remove and replace damaged components, electrical repairs, brake and axle work, and welding. Body repairs including sheet metal patching, riveting and replacement of complete or partial panels for dry box shipping.

• Maintain the general cleanliness of the shop and assist trailer mechanics

• Prepare and complete required paperwork.

The ideal candidate will have some experience in general vehicle, body, or trailer repair; however, we will consider candidates with related education or experience.

Trailer Mechanics need...

• Valid driver’s license preferred

• Must be of 18 years or older.

• Tools preferred, tool purchase program available

• Attention to accuracy and detail

• Must be able to demonstrate safety consciousness

• Ability to lift to 50 lbs, walk, lift, reach, stand, grasp, climb, and crouch for extended periods of time.

• Self-starter with a high degree of problem-solving skills and deductive reasoning.
