Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee 2D/3D Architectural Draftsman to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in architectural drafting, 2D CAD drawing production, 3D modelling.

Working under the guidance of experienced drafts people and coordinators, the successful candidate will receive training and support to develop the technical skills required to produce accurate architectural drawings and 3D models in accordance with project requirements.

The role will involve assisting with the preparation and updating of 2D drawings, developing 3D architectural models, interpreting design information.

Key Responsibilities

2D CAD Drafting

• Assist in producing and amending 2D architectural drawings using AutoCAD.
• Prepare and update floor plans, elevations, sections, layouts.
• Interpret architectural drawings, sketches, mark-ups and design information.
• Incorporate design revisions and comments into drawings accurately and efficiently.
• Assist with setting out dimensions, annotations, levels, notes and other drawing information.
• Maintain drawing standards, layer conventions, line types, scales and presentation requirements.
• Ensure drawings are clearly presented, correctly referenced and issued in accordance with company procedures.
• Assist in checking drawings for accuracy, consistency and completeness before issue.

3D Modelling

• Assist in developing 3D architectural models using Autodesk Revit or other relevant modelling software.
• Support the creation and modification of architectural elements, including walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, roofs and internal layouts.
• Assist in producing coordinated views, sections, elevations and other information from 3D models.
• Update models to reflect revised drawings, design changes and coordination requirements.
• Learn to manage model components, views, drawing sheets and revisions.
• Develop an understanding of BIM processes and the role of 3D models within construction projects.
• Help ensure architectural information is coordinated with the wider project requirements and practical construction needs.

Project Support

• Work to agreed project programmes, priorities and drawing issue deadlines.
• Review incoming information and ensure the latest available revisions are being used.
• Assist with maintaining organised project files, drawing registers and revision records.
• Communicate progress, technical queries and potential issues to the relevant team members.
• Incorporate feedback and amendments from senior team members and project stakeholders.
• Attend project and coordination meetings where required.
• Follow company procedures, drawing standards and project-specific requirements.

Training and Development

• Participate in structured on-the-job training and mentoring.
• Develop proficiency in 2D CAD drafting and 3D architectural modelling software.
• Build knowledge of architectural design principles, construction methods and technical detailing.
• Progressively take responsibility for producing accurate drawings and models as skills and experience develop.

Skills and Experience

Essential

• Some experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit.
• Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
• Basic IT skills and confidence using computer-based applications i.e. MS Word, MS Excel etc...
• Willingness to learn new software, systems and technical processes.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow technical guidance.
• A proactive attitude towards learning, problem-solving and personal development.

Desirable

• Basic knowledge of architectural drawings, building layouts or construction principles.
• Relevant college qualifications or studies in architecture, construction, building design, engineering or a related discipline.
• An understanding of 2D drafting principles, drawing scales, dimensions and annotations.
• An interest in 3D modelling and Building Information Modelling (BIM).
• Some experience interpreting plans, elevations, sections or technical drawings.

Previous industry experience is not essential, as training and support will be provided to the right candidate.

Training and Career Development

The successful candidate will receive guidance and mentoring from experienced members of the architectural drafting and coordination team, with opportunities to develop their technical knowledge and practical experience in both 2D CAD drafting and 3D architectural modelling.

Training will focus on producing accurate technical drawings, developing 3D models, understanding architectural construction details, managing drawing revisions and coordinating information with other project disciplines.

As experience develops, the individual will be encouraged to take greater responsibility for drawing production, model development, quality checking and coordination activities.

The long-term objective is to develop the individual into a competent 2D/3D Architectural Draftsman, with the potential to progress into an Architectural CAD Technician, BIM Technician or Architectural Coordinator role, subject to performance, experience and development.

Pay: £25,000.00 per year
