What they need
Trainee Assistant Manager
Location: Taylors on the Green, Keighley, West Yorkshire
An exciting opportunity to join one of Britain’s most respected and award-winning, independent breweries, where tradition, integrity and quality still take centre stage.
Why join Timothy Taylor’s?
At Timothy Taylor’s, we don’t just serve food and drink; we create experiences. Still proudly independent, our pubs have built a reputation for doing things the right way, not the easy way. That goes for our people too.
We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trainee Assistant Manager on a part time basis. If you’re passionate about hospitality, enjoy working with people and are ready to develop your leadership and management skills, this could be the perfect opportunity to take the next step in your career.
The role: Trainee Assistant Manager
As a Trainee Assistant Manager, you’ll support the management team in the day-to-day running of the pub and restaurant, helping to deliver an exceptional guest experience while maintaining high standards of service, cleanliness, presentation and beer quality.
You’ll gain hands-on experience across all aspects of pub operations, from coordinating shifts and supporting the team to developing your commercial awareness and understanding of cellar management and cask ale quality. With a structured training and development plan, you’ll build the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed to progress into an Assistant Manager position.
This is a great opportunity for someone with hospitality experience who is keen to learn, take on new challenges and develop their career within a supportive team and a well-established Yorkshire business.
Key responsibilities:
Support the day-to-day running of the pub and restaurant, helping to maintain high standards of service, cleanliness, presentation and atmosphere across all operational areas.
Deliver an exceptional guest experience by providing friendly, professional and attentive service, creating a welcoming environment that encourages repeat business and customer loyalty.
Support the management team in coordinating shifts, overseeing bar and restaurant service, communicating effectively with the kitchen and ensuring service runs smoothly.
Develop an understanding of shift leadership, including team briefings, task allocation, break management and shift handovers, taking on greater responsibility as skills and confidence develop.
Learn and support opening and closing procedures, including security checks, till operations and close-down standards. Undertake keyholder or duty management responsibilities only once appropriately trained and authorised.
Support the induction, training and ongoing development of team members, helping colleagues understand service expectations, product knowledge and safe working practices.
Develop people management skills through coaching, constructive feedback and supporting the management team in addressing performance, attendance and conduct concerns.
Build knowledge of Timothy Taylor’s beers, the wider drinks range, menus and promotions, enabling confident product recommendations and effective upselling.
Develop practical skills in cellar management and cask ale care, including safe handling, stock rotation, line cleaning and beer quality checks, ensuring the highest standards are maintained under appropriate supervision.
Support stock management activities, including delivery checks, stock takes, wastage recording and identifying discrepancies, shortages or potential areas for improvement.
Learn cash handling procedures, till operations, cashing up and banking controls, ensuring company processes are followed and discrepancies are reported promptly.
Develop commercial awareness through an understanding of sales performance, gross profit, labour costs and operational targets, supporting initiatives that drive revenue and profitability.
Assist with bookings, functions, live music, events and promotional activities to increase sales, enhance guest experience and strengthen relationships within the local community.
Ensure compliance with food hygiene, allergen management, health and safety, fire safety, licensing legislation and company procedures, escalating concerns and supporting the maintenance of accurate records.
Promote responsible alcohol service and follow company age verification procedures and premises licence conditions.
Report hazards, maintenance issues, accidents and security concerns promptly, maintaining a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
Participate in agreed training and development activities, working towards the skills and competencies required for progression into an Assistant Manager role.
