What they need

Trainee Building Management Systems (BMS) Engineer

Location: Gloucestershire / Within 1 Hour of Gloucester

Salary: £30,000–£40,000 Depending on Experience

Are you an aspiring engineer looking to build a career in Building Management Systems (BMS) and building automation? Have you completed an electrical apprenticeship, gained hands-on experience as an electrician, or recently graduated in Computer Science or a related discipline?

We are working with a UK-based Data Design and Build engineering specialist that is expanding its engineering team and looking to recruit a Trainee BMS Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering business offering comprehensive product training, hands-on technical development, and the chance to work on projects across the globe, including mainland Europe, the United States, and Australia.

You don't need previous BMS experience, as full product training will be provided. The company is looking for someone with a strong technical foundation, a willingness to learn, and an interest in developing a long-term career in building automation and control systems.

The Role

  • Receive full product training in Building Management Systems, building automation, and associated technologies.
  • Support the design, configuration, and implementation of BMS solutions across a range of engineering projects.
  • Learn how to integrate building services, including HVAC systems, controls, and monitoring technologies.
  • Assist with the development, testing, and commissioning of building management and control systems.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers to develop your technical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Support engineering documentation, system configuration, and project delivery activities.
  • Develop an understanding of control strategies, system architecture, and building services integration.
  • Travel internationally to support projects across mainland Europe, the US, and Australia as your experience develops.

The Ideal Candidate

The company is open to candidates from a variety of technical backgrounds, including:

  • Individuals who have completed an electrical apprenticeship.
  • Electricians with a couple of years of practical experience looking to move into a more technical engineering role.
  • Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similarly qualified graduates.
  • Candidates with an interest in programming, electrical systems, automation, or building technologies.

You should also demonstrate:

  • A genuine interest in engineering, automation, and technology.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • A willingness to learn new software, products, and technical systems.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of an engineering team.
  • Flexibility to travel internationally when required.
  • Ideally, a location within approximately one hour of Gloucester.

Previous BMS experience is not essential. The right attitude, technical aptitude, and enthusiasm to develop will be key.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary of £30,000–£40,000, depending on experience.
  • Full product and technical training.
  • A structured opportunity to develop into a specialist BMS Engineer.
  • International project exposure across mainland Europe, the United States, and Australia.
  • The opportunity to work with a growing UK-based Data Design and Build engineering specialist.
  • Hands-on experience with modern building automation and control technologies.
  • Long-term career development within a specialist engineering environment.

Interested?

If you're an electrician, electrical apprentice, or recent technical graduate looking to take the next step in your engineering career, this could be an excellent opportunity to move into the growing world of building automation.
