Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee MEP 3D Draftsman to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) building services design, 3D modelling and coordination.

Working under the guidance of experienced MEP coordinators and drafts people, the successful candidate will receive training and support to develop the technical skills required to produce accurate 3D models and coordinated building services drawings.

The role will involve assisting with the preparation, development and coordination of MEP models, ensuring that building services installations are accurately represented and coordinated with architectural, structural and other project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

3D Modelling and Drafting

• Assist in producing 3D MEP models and coordinated building services layouts.
• Support the preparation of mechanical, electrical and public health drawings using Autodesk Revit.
• Assist with modelling building services components, including ductwork, pipework, containment, equipment and associated systems.
• Update drawings and models in line with design revisions, project requirements and technical feedback.
• Develop an understanding of construction drawings, technical specifications and building services layouts.
• Maintain accurate drawing information, revisions and project documentation.

MEP Coordination

• Assist with coordinating MEP services within the building structure and architectural layouts.
• Identify potential clashes or spatial conflicts between building services, structural elements and architectural features.
• Work alongside MEP Coordinators and senior team members to resolve coordination issues.
• Liaise with Architectural, Structural and other project teams as required.
• Assist in ensuring that models and drawings reflect agreed coordination requirements and design information.
• Develop an understanding of installation requirements, access zones, maintenance clearances and buildability.

Project Support

• Work to project programmes, agreed deadlines and drawing issue dates.
• Ensure that work is completed accurately and in accordance with company standards and project procedures.
• Incorporate feedback and amendments from senior team members and project stakeholders.
• Assist with maintaining organised project files and drawing registers.
• Communicate progress, technical queries and potential issues to the relevant team members.
• Attend project and coordination meetings where required.

Training and Development

• Participate in structured on-the-job training and mentoring.
• Develop proficiency in relevant 3D modelling, CAD and BIM software.
• Build knowledge of MEP systems, construction methods and industry standards.
• Progressively take responsibility for producing and coordinating drawings and models as skills develop.

Skills and Experience

Essential

• Some experience using AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks or other CAD/BIM software
• Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
• Basic IT skills and confidence using computer-based applications i.e. MS Word, MS Excel etc...
• Willingness to learn new software, systems and technical processes.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
• A proactive attitude towards learning, problem-solving and personal development.

Desirable

• An interest in Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) building services.
• Relevant college qualifications, technical training or studies in engineering, construction, design or a related discipline.
• An understanding of 3D modelling or spatial coordination.
• Previous industry experience is not essential, as full training and support will be provided to the right candidate.

Training and Career Development

The successful candidate will receive guidance from experienced members of the design and coordination team, with opportunities to develop their technical knowledge and practical experience in MEP 3D modelling.

The long-term objective is to develop the individual into a competent MEP 3D Draftsman, with the potential to progress into an MEP BIM Technician or MEP Coordinator role, subject to performance, experience and development.

Pay: £25,000.00 per year
