At Orica, it’s the power of our people that leads change and shapes our futures.  Every day, all around the world, our people help mobilise vital resources essential to progress. Established in 1874, we have grown to become the world leader in mining and civil blasting with a diverse of team of more than 13,000 across the world.

It’s an exciting time to join us – we are shaping the future of mining through digital and automated technologies, embracing new ways of thinking, pioneering innovation and reimagining the way we work.

About the role

We are looking for a Trainee MMU Operator to join our Quarry Services team, with an initial training and development pathway based in Marulan, NSW.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or build a career in the mining, quarrying, transport, manufacturing, construction, agriculture, mechanical, or heavy industry sectors. No blasting experience is required. We will provide the training, support, and development to help you succeed.

As a Trainee MMU Operator, you'll learn how to safely operate our Mobile Manufacturing Units (MMUs), which are advanced heavy vehicles used to deliver explosive products to customer sites. You'll work alongside experienced team members who will support your learning and career development every step of the way.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are either:

  • Based in the Parkes region, with the flexibility to spend an extended training period (potentially six months or more) in Marulan before returning to Parkes, or
  • Based in the Marulan/Goulburn region, who would be open to relocating to Parkes in the future as operational requirements evolve.

This opportunity is ideal for candidates who are seeking long-term career development and are excited about supporting the growth of our operations. As we continue to expand, we're looking to build a skilled and trained workforce that is ready to hit the ground running in future locations, including Parkes.

What you will be doing

  • Putting safety first in everything you do;
  • Learning to operate MMU trucks and associated equipment;
  • Assisting with the safe delivery of explosive products at customer sites;
  • Supporting preventative maintenance and basic equipment checks;
  • Working closely with teammates to deliver outstanding customer service;
  • Following operational procedures and contributing to a positive team culture.

What you will bring

We're interested in people who can demonstrate the skills and attributes needed to thrive in the role. You may have gained these through work, volunteering, military service, sporting teams, farming, trades, transport, manufacturing, construction, or other life experiences.

Key transferable skills and attributes include:

  • A strong commitment to safety and following procedures;
  • Experience working in outdoor, hands-on, or physically active environments;
  • Reliability, accountability, and a positive work ethic;
  • Mechanical aptitude or an interest in learning how equipment operates;
  • Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively;
  • Problem-solving skills and willingness to learn;
  • Experience operating machinery, vehicles, tools, or equipment (desirable);
  • Current driver's licence (mandatory);
  • HR licence or willingness to obtain one (advantageous).

What we offer

As part of a truly global company, you will have the ability to grow and learn in a diverse, collaborative culture. We foster relationships and learning through connected global and local teams, promote flexible and diverse career paths and support the development of your knowledge and skills.
