What they need

Nottingham | Trainee Operations Manager | Full-time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, standard business hours)

You are likely the person who automatically figures out the most efficient way to complete a task, spots operational bottlenecks before others do, and gets genuine satisfaction from keeping schedules, supplies, and processes running without a hitch. You prefer practical problem-solving to sitting back, and you naturally keep cool when day-to-day priorities shift.

If you want to build a career in business operations and learn how day-to-day workflow, team coordination, and logistics fit together across an organization, this entry-level management role in Nottingham is an ideal fit. We are expanding our regional business support team and need a practical, analytical Trainee Operations Manager to learn operational oversight alongside our head of operations.

Core Operational Responsibilities

Working directly with our operations leads and department heads in Nottingham, your responsibilities will expand as you move through your training:

  • Monitoring daily operational workflows to ensure internal tasks, client deliverables, and team schedules stay on track.
  • Assisting with inventory management, equipment allocation, and supplier order tracking.
  • Reviewing operational data, tracking performance metrics, and creating straightforward weekly progress reports.
  • Liaising with internal departments to help resolve day-to-day scheduling conflicts or resource shortages.
  • Helping audit operational procedures to identify areas where workflow, accuracy, or efficiency can be improved.
  • Coordinating facility requirements, health and safety logs, and office administrative compliance.
  • Assisting with the onboarding and logistics setup for new starters across the local team.
  • Supporting post-project operational reviews and logging vendor performance records.

Candidate Qualities We Seek

We place much more importance on analytical thinking, dependable habits, and practical decision-making than on years of prior management experience. We look for:

  • A structured, logical approach to problem-solving and task prioritization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for liaising with staff, suppliers, and managers.
  • Good numerical and technical comfort, particularly with spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel and operational software.
  • High personal standards regarding punctuality, accuracy, and follow-through on commitment.
  • Adaptability when handling shifting operational priorities during busy periods.
  • Transferable experience from administration, customer service, logistics, retail shift coordination, university leadership, or hospitality is a plus, but not essential as full training is provided.

Operational Training & Mentorship

We provide comprehensive, practical training from your first week to give you a complete view of how a business operates.

You will start by shadowing our operations manager through daily facility checks, resource planning, and process reviews. Through weekly one-to-one coaching sessions, you will learn operational cost control, workflow design, risk management, and team scheduling techniques. As your operational understanding develops, you will take direct responsibility for specific operational routines and work toward full Operations Manager duties.

Package & Compensation

  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based bonuses linked to operational accuracy and team efficiency targets
  • Full initial training covering operations software, workflow management, and reporting systems
  • Weekly one-to-one coaching and continuous professional development
  • Practical, hands-on operations experience in a growing Nottingham office
  • Team social events and group incentives
  • Formal recognition for process improvement, accuracy, and operational support
  • Clear internal pathways to step into Operations Manager and Site Logistics Lead roles

To Apply

If you want to apply your problem-solving skills and structured mindset to a growing Nottingham team, please submit your CV along with your current contact details. We review applications regularly and will contact suitable applicants for an initial telephone interview.
