What they need
Piopio
Live and breathe the King Country.
If you love farming, enjoy building relationships, and want a career that keeps you connected to rural New Zealand, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
Based in Piopio, you'll work in the heart of the King Country, supporting local farmers and becoming part of a close-knit rural community. Whether you're working in farming, rural retail, animal health, or another agricultural role, this is a chance to take the next step in your career while learning from some of the best people in the industry.
PGG Wrightson has been helping grow New Zealand for generations through our knowledge, service and expertise. We're now looking for our next Trainee Technical Field Representative (TFR) to join the team.
This isn't a desk job. You'll spend your time in Store, on farm, meeting clients, solving problems, learning about farming systems, and building trusted relationships across the district. With hands on mentoring and a structured development programme, you'll gain the skills and experience to build a successful career in the rural sector in the King Country.
Why Piopio and the King Country?
The King Country offers a genuine rural lifestyle, strong farming communities, great people and some of the country's best farming country.
This role would suit someone who:
- Wants a change from their current farming or rural industry role
- Enjoys working with farmers and rural businesses
- Is passionate about agriculture and rural communities
- Wants to build a long term career in the King Country with plenty of growth opportunities
- Likes being outdoors and getting off the farm while staying connected to the industry.
What will you learn?
You'll gain practical experience across all aspects of the role, including:
- Managing and growing a client portfolio
- Building trusted relationships with farmers and growers
- Sales, technical expertise and on-farm solutions
- Quoting, contracts and commercial operations
- Agronomy, pasture, crop and specialist agricultural sectors
- Animal health, nutrition, fencing and other solutions to help our clients grow their businesses
- Rural industry compliance and legislation
- Working alongside external industry partners
- Understanding the wider PGG Wrightson business, including Livestock, Wool, Real Estate and Corporate services.
About the role
- Full-time permanent position based in Piopio
- Supported by our structured 18-month TFR training and Academy programme
- Combination of on-farm, client-facing and office-based work
- Significant training, mentoring and development opportunities
- Opportunity to build your own client base and career pathway within PGG Wrightson.
What our people say
"I say to people it's the best job in the world. If you like being outdoors and working on farm, it's the job for you. Not only are you learning under some of the best reps in the country, but you're continually supported by a massive network of people throughout PGG Wrightson." Ben Chambers, Former Trainee TFR
We're interested in people who:
- Have a passion for New Zealand agriculture
- Enjoy connecting with people and building relationships
- Understand farming, rural communities or the agricultural sector
- Are keen to learn and develop their technical knowledge
- Can communicate confidently with a wide range of clients
- Have practical farming or rural industry experience (preferred)
- Hold a full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
A tertiary qualification is helpful but not essential. We're more interested in your attitude, agricultural knowledge, relationship skills and desire to build a career in the industry.
If you're looking for a fresh challenge, want to stay connected to agriculture, and are excited by the opportunity to learn from experienced rural professionals while building a rewarding career, we'd love to hear from you.
