Trainee Waste Truck Operator

About Us

VTG Waste & Recycling is looking for motivated and reliable people to join our team as Trainee Truck Operators.

These roles are designed as a structured pathway into heavy vehicle operations. You don't need previous truck-driving experience — we're looking for people with the right attitude, strong safety awareness and a willingness to learn.

Successful trainees will initially work in our light vehicle operations, gaining practical experience in waste collection, customer service, vehicle operation and safe work practices before progressing into the heavy vehicle fleet.

Light Vehicle Operations Pathway | 6 Months

Trainees will commence operating light vehicles across our waste collection services, which may include:

• Ute and trailer combinations
• Pantech trucks
• Collection and delivery services
• Manual handling and waste collection activities
• Customer and site-based services

During this period, you will develop a strong understanding of VTG's operating procedures, safety requirements, customer expectations and waste operations.

Progression is based on successfully completing a minimum development period and demonstrating the required standards of safety, reliability, attendance, performance and attitude.

What we're looking for

You don't need to be an experienced truck driver. We're looking for candidates who:

• Hold a current Australian driver's licence
• Are reliable and punctual
• Have a strong commitment to workplace and road safety
• Are comfortable undertaking physical and outdoor work
• A willingness to learn and take direction
• Can work independently and as part of a team
• Communicate professionally with customers and the public
• Are interested in developing a long-term career in transport and waste operations
