Why join ProEconomy?
With over 30 years in the industry, ProEconomy is a leader in water hygiene innovation. Our Orca copper and silver ionisation system is used across hospitals, universities, and critical environments to control Legionella and other waterborne pathogens.
Alongside this, our cloud-based platform Tetras gives engineers full visibility and control—bringing modern technology into day-to-day operations.
You’ll be joining a business that invests in its engineers and takes pride in doing things properly.
The Role
We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Trainee Water Hygiene Engineer to join our team. You will help deliver water hygiene services at customer premises, supporting the safe operation of water systems and the management of Legionella risks.
Working alongside experienced engineers, you will learn to carry out routine monitoring, inspection, sampling and maintenance tasks. Previous water hygiene experience is not essential; structured training and supervised practical experience will be provided.
Key responsibilities
As your training progresses, you will:
- Carry out water temperature monitoring and flushing of infrequently used outlets.
- Assist with inspecting cold water storage tanks and other water system components.
- Clean, descale and disinfect showerheads, hoses and associated fittings.
- Collect water samples in accordance with approved procedures.
- Assist experienced engineers with water system cleaning, disinfection and maintenance.
- Complete accurate digital job sheets, monitoring records and site reports.
- Report unusual readings, defects, access difficulties and incomplete tasks promptly.
- Follow company procedures, site rules, risk assessments and safe working instructions.
- Use and care for tools, testing equipment, PPE and any assigned company vehicle.
- Communicate professionally with customers, building occupants and colleagues.
- Attend training and practical assessments, applying feedback to develop your skills.
You will work under appropriate supervision and only undertake tasks independently once assessed as competent.
Essential requirements
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn a practical technical role.
- Strong attention to detail and an honest approach to recording and reporting work.
- Reliability, punctuality and good organisational skills.
- Basic literacy and numeracy sufficient to follow instructions, read measurements and complete records.
- Good communication skills and a polite, professional manner.
- Basic smartphone or tablet skills.
- A commitment to safe working and willingness to seek advice when unsure.
- Ability to undertake practical site duties safely, with reasonable adjustments where appropriate.
- Willingness to travel throughout London
- Full UK Drivers License
Desirable experience
- Experience in plumbing, maintenance, facilities management, construction or another practical role.
- Basic understanding of building water systems or Legionella prevention.
- Relevant health and safety or site training.
- Experience using hand tools or completing service records.
- Experience in a client facing role.
These are advantages, but are not required to apply.
Training and development
Training will cover Legionella awareness, relevant ACOP L8 and HSG274 guidance, routine water hygiene tasks, accurate record keeping and applicable site safety procedures.
Your development will include supervised site work and practical competency assessments, with opportunities to progress into a qualified Water Hygiene Engineer role as your skills and experience develop.
What makes this role different
This isn’t a company where you’re left to get on with it without support.
We invest in your development through our Continuous Competency Programme, giving you structured training, mentoring, and the opportunity to specialise in key water hygiene disciplines.
You’ll be trusted to manage your own work while being supported by a strong operational team.
What you’ll get
- Company vehicle
- Paid door-to-door
- Performance bonus
- Ongoing training and development
- Clear progression opportunities
Our culture
We value people who take pride in their work, communicate well, and care about doing things properly.
