Transformer Field Service Technician Trainee

About the Position

We are looking for a motivated and dependable Field Service Engineer (FSE) Trainee to join our growing transformer service team. This is an entry-level position with hands-on training provided.

The FSE Trainee will learn how to perform field service, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair work on transformers and related electrical equipment at customer sites.

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, willing to learn, comfortable working outdoors and in industrial environments, and able to travel to job sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist experienced field service technicians/engineers with transformer service and maintenance.
• Learn and perform transformer inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair procedures.
• Assist with electrical equipment installation, replacement, and troubleshooting.
• Follow company EHS, JHA, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Learn and follow customer and site-specific safety requirements.
• Assist with electrical component replacement, including fuses and other transformer components.
• Use basic hand tools and electrical testing equipment.
• Complete work documentation, service reports, checklists, and photo records.
• Communicate professionally with customers and project/site personnel.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
• Travel to customer locations and work at industrial and electrical facilities.
• Perform other field service duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of electrical systems or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work safely in industrial and outdoor environments.
• Ability to use basic hand tools.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to travel for field projects.

Preferred

• Technical school, electrical training, or related education.
• Experience with electrical, mechanical, transformer, or industrial equipment.
• OSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR/First Aid, or other safety training.
• Previous construction, electrical, maintenance, or field service experience.
• Ability to read basic electrical diagrams or schematics.

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Training will be provided.

Physical & Field Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work around electrical equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment as required.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety footwear, and arc-rated clothing when required.
• Ability to work at customer sites and industrial facilities.
• Some overnight travel and extended field assignments may be required.

The selected candidate will receive training in:

• Transformer fundamentals
• Transformer inspection and maintenance
• Electrical safety
• NFPA 70E / electrical safe work practices
• Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
• Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
• EHS procedures
• Use of electrical testing equipment
• Field service procedures and documentation
• Customer/site safety requirements
