Transmission Line Engineer IV

Position Overview

A growing power infrastructure business is seeking an experienced Transmission Line Engineer IV to support the design and delivery of complex transmission projects.

This senior-level position will be responsible for the engineering, analysis and development of high-voltage transmission lines. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, project management and construction teams to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design overhead high-voltage transmission lines, including route selection, conductor sizing, structure selection and line configuration.
• Perform structural analysis and design for steel and concrete transmission structures.
• Complete foundation analysis and design using geotechnical information and boring-log data.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings and construction packages.
• Use transmission line design software to model structures, assess clearances and validate designs.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, construction teams and other technical disciplines.
• Review existing transmission infrastructure and recommend improvements to reliability, safety and performance.
• Support project planning, design reviews, constructability assessments and technical issue resolution.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable NESC, IEEE, ANSI and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits and construction inspections.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design personnel.
• Manage multiple engineering assignments while maintaining project schedules, budgets and quality standards.
• Remain current with transmission engineering technologies, industry developments and best practices.
• Perform additional technical duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university.
• At least 6 years of transmission line engineering or closely related experience.
• Active Professional Engineer licence.
• Strong experience designing high-voltage transmission lines.
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD and AutoCAD.
• Experience with engineering tools such as M-FAD, LPILE or similar structural and foundation-analysis software.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical reports and boring logs.
• Experience reviewing structure calculations and foundation designs.
• Strong understanding of transmission line engineering principles, design criteria and constructability.
• Working knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ANSI and other applicable industry standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical documentation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Experience

• Overhead and underground line-design experience.
• Distribution-level line-design experience.
• Familiarity with PSS/E or comparable power-system analysis software.
• Knowledge of load-flow, short-circuit and stability studies.
• Project management and construction-coordination experience.
• Previous responsibility for mentoring or reviewing the work of junior engineers.
