About the Company

Our client is a fully integrated electrical power system services firm delivering end‑to‑end solutions across utility, renewable energy, battery storage, industrial, petrochemical, and other critical infrastructure markets. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, the company applies deep subject‑matter expertise and an engineering‑led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium‑ and high‑voltage electrical infrastructure for clients locally, nationally, and internationally.

Position Overview

The Transmission Engineer II supports the engineering, analysis, and design of overhead and underground transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV. This role performs engineering calculations, develops construction packages, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and supports projects from conceptual design through construction.

Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the Engineer II independently manages portions of projects, mentors junior team members, and ensures all work aligns with client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transmission line design for overhead and underground systems (69kV–765kV).
  • Engineering calculations including structure loading, conductor selection, sag/tension, clearance analysis, and foundation loading.
  • Develop plans, profiles, staking sheets, and complete construction packages.
  • Conduct routing studies and evaluate alternatives based on engineering, environmental, permitting, and constructability factors.
  • Coordinate with structural, civil, geotechnical, survey, environmental, and permitting teams.
  • Review vendor drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Prepare engineering reports, design summaries, and project documentation.
  • Support cost estimates, material takeoffs, and project scheduling.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and QA/QC processes.
  • Provide field support including site visits, construction assistance, and installation evaluations.
  • Resolve technical issues during design and construction phases.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, utilities, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Support proposal development with engineering input and labor estimates.
  • Mentor junior engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Stay current with industry standards, utility requirements, and emerging transmission technologies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, Structural, or related engineering discipline (ABET‑accredited).
  • 3–5 years of transmission line engineering experience.
  • EIT certification required or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
  • Progress toward PE licensure preferred.
  • Experience with transmission voltages 69kV–765kV.
  • Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE Manual 74, ASCE 10, IEEE standards, and utility design practices.
  • Experience with PLS‑CADD, PLS‑POLE, PLS‑TOWER, TOWER, or similar software preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD platforms preferred.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of transmission engineering principles and utility design standards.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of overhead structures, conductors, insulators, foundations, and hardware.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Commitment to producing high‑quality engineering deliverables.
