Transport Planner

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join our operations team. This is a hands-on planning role suited to someone who can manage a busy transport operation, react quickly to changing priorities and maintain a strong focus on safety, service and efficient vehicle utilisation. Experience within the energy sector, or in specialist transport supporting energy, offshore, industrial or project-based customers, would be a strong advantage.

You will work closely with drivers, operations colleagues and customers to ensure collections and deliveries are planned and executed safely, legally and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

· Plan and coordinate daily vehicle movements, collections and deliveries, balancing customer requirements with fleet and driver availability.

· Allocate work to drivers and vehicles, making effective use of available capacity and minimising unnecessary mileage and empty running.

· Monitor transport activity throughout the day and respond quickly to delays, breakdowns, changing customer priorities and other operational issues.

· Communicate clearly with drivers, customers and internal teams, providing timely updates when plans change.

· Ensure planned activity supports compliance with drivers hours, working time, vehicle restrictions and company safety requirements.

· Maintain accurate planning information and operational records within the relevant transport management systems.

· Support the coordination of time-critical, specialist and project-related movements, including work associated with energy-sector customers where applicable.

· Work collaboratively with the wider operations team to improve service, utilisation, productivity and cost control.

What We Are Looking For

· Previous experience in transport planning, traffic planning, fleet planning or a similar operational logistics role.

· Ideally, experience within the energy sector or supporting oil and gas, offshore, renewables, industrial or specialist logistics operations.

· A strong understanding of UK road transport operations and the practical requirements of planning drivers and vehicles.

· Good geographical knowledge and the ability to build practical, efficient transport plans.

· Confident communication skills and the ability to deal professionally with drivers, customers and colleagues.

· Calm, organised and decisive when working under pressure or dealing with last-minute changes.

· Good attention to detail, particularly around timings, instructions, compliance and operational documentation.

· Comfortable using transport management systems and standard Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable

· Experience planning specialist or abnormal/complex transport movements.

· Knowledge of port, offshore supply base or energy-sector logistics environments.

· Transport Manager CPC or other relevant transport/logistics qualification.

· Experience working across multiple depots or coordinating subcontracted hauliers.

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
