What they need

Role Summary

The Data Planner supports the Project Director in coordinating Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and traffic data projects from planning to delivery. The role combines project and data coordination — planning data collection, managing datasets, carrying out quality checks and preparing outputs — with hands-on technical deployment, including setting up edge AI devices, connecting camera feeds to them, and keeping installations operational.

The role suits someone who is equally comfortable working with spreadsheets and configuring equipment on site.

Key Responsibilities

1. ITS Project Coordination and Data Planning

  • Support the Project Director in planning, scheduling and coordinating ITS, video analytics and traffic data projects.

  • Prepare data collection plans, including camera locations, survey coverage, timelines and resources, based on project requirements.

  • Track project tasks, deliverables and site activities, and report progress, risks and issues to the Project Director.

  • Liaise with clients, installation contractors, hardware suppliers and technology partners on site readiness, access and delivery schedules.

  • Organise field staff and resources for traffic surveys and deployments, and conduct briefings for field staff and stakeholders.

2. Edge Device Setup and Camera Integration

  • Set up edge AI devices using supplied system images and documented procedures, including OS installation, reinstallation and recovery, and verify successful startup and service health.

  • Configure IP cameras for each site, including IP addressing (static or DHCP), subnet, gateway, DNS, access credentials and stream settings such as codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate.

  • Connect camera feeds (e.g. RTSP streams) to edge devices, confirm stream access, and check camera focus, framing and image quality against the approved design.

  • Assist in setting up small site networks, including switches, routers, PoE and 4G/5G connectivity, as well as approved remote access.

  • Check site readiness before deployment, including power, PoE, cabling, network access and camera views.

  • Carry out commissioning and post-maintenance checks to confirm that analytics, recordings, data outputs and alerts work end to end.

  • Diagnose routine faults across power, cabling, network, camera, video stream and edge devices, and escalate unresolved issues to vendors or specialist support with clear evidence (device IDs, software versions, timestamps, logs, footage and tests already performed).

  • Monitor device health (connectivity, storage, temperature, stale or missing data) using the dashboards provided, and coordinate equipment replacement or supplier returns where required.

3. Data Processing, Analysis and Quality Assurance

  • Process and analyse traffic and transport data from surveys, video analytics platforms, IoT sensors and other data sources.

  • Transfer and manage video footage and datasets on designated cloud servers and data platforms.

  • Perform data entry, checking and preparation of survey datasheets.

  • Conduct quality checks to identify inconsistencies, errors or missing information, and flag issues to the Project Director and project team for follow-up.

  • Prepare data summaries, charts, tables and other analytical outputs for reports and client submissions.

4. Documentation and Records

  • Maintain accurate records, including device inventory, network diagrams, camera configurations, change history and incident logs.

  • Handle credentials, footage and client data securely, and share them only through approved channels.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Support the adoption and continuous improvement of AI, ITS, edge computing and automated data collection technologies within the company.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Director.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.

  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply. Hands-on experience with IP CCTV, IT networking, IoT devices, traffic data or ITS deployments will be an advantage.

Technical Skills (Essential)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Basic networking knowledge, including IP addressing, subnets, gateways, DHCP and DNS.

  • Basic Linux command-line skills (files, permissions, running supplied scripts, SSH) and the ability to follow technical documentation step by step.

  • Strong analytical skills with good attention to detail.

Technical Skills (Advantageous)

  • Experience with IP cameras, RTSP streams, PoE and network troubleshooting tools.

  • Familiarity with edge AI hardware (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson), industrial 4G/5G routers or VPNs.

  • Experience with monitoring dashboards such as Grafana, or with API and MQTT data connections.

  • Experience with Python, Power BI, GIS or similar data tools.

  • Basic understanding of AI video analytics. AI model development or software engineering experience is not required.

Personal Attributes

  • Good communication and organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate across internal teams, clients and contractors.

  • Takes ownership of issues, follows procedures and documents findings clearly.

  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.

  • Willing to undertake regular site and field work, including occasional work outside office hours during deployments.

Working Arrangements

  • Primarily office-based, with regular site visits for installations, commissioning, maintenance and surveys.
