Transportation Manager

Job Purpose:

The Transportation Manager owns both the operational and governance sides of the role: managing logistics vendors, routing, scheduling, fleet operations, cost, and compliance for timely, cost-effective delivery of our genetics and feeds, while holding contractors accountable through a fair, evidence-based claims process and KPI-based performance management.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Transportation Planning & Execution (Road and Air Freight)

• Develop and manage transportation strategies for Broodstock, Nauplii, and PL to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery.
• Monitor delivery KPIs and ensure biosecurity, animal welfare, and quality standards are met in transit.
• Coordinate with farm, QC, and service-provider teams on delivery protocols, including air freight for export markets.
• Manage contractor assignment, delivery SOPs, and owned transport equipment.

2. Contractor & Vendor Performance Management

• Set up and manage KPI/incentive schemes to measure and review contractor performance.
• Conduct contractor and driver training, coaching, and performance reviews.
• Manage the claims, dispute, and escalation process for contractor-related issues.

3. Customer & Commercial Coordination

• Coordinate delivery bookings with Sales and manage contractor assignment accordingly.
• Evaluate contractor/vendor performance and relay relevant customer feedback.

4. Cost Control & Budgeting

• Manage transportation costs and identify cost-saving opportunities in line with Procurement strategy.
• Support tender and contract review, and recover claim costs from contractors where liability is established.

5. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, driver conduct standards, and contractor safety/licensing requirements.
• Lead incident investigations and enforce reporting, documentation, and product-disposal standards.

6. Regulatory & Documentation Oversight

• Oversee import/export approvals and regulatory permits/licences for the animal and feed product life cycle.

7. Team & Reporting

• Establish transportation systems, processes, and technology to monitor and improve performance.
• Analyze data and report to leadership on transportation and governance-framework performance

Key Interfaces:

• Operations, Sales / Commercial, Contractors, Procurement / Group, Finance, QC, Legal, Government authorities & clearance agents.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Transportation Management, or a related field; a Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g. APICS, CILT) is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in logistics or transportation management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role, including managing 3PL vendors and fleet operations (inbound & outbound).
• Proven experience managing deliveries to rural or remote areas, including coordination with small-scale farms and local stakeholders; experience in the aquaculture, agriculture, or perishable goods industry is highly preferred.
• Experience with claims, dispute, or liability assessment is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of transportation laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Proficiency in route planning tools, ERP, and TMS systems.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
• Good command in English communication skills.
