Transportation Operations Manager

About us

Garden of Eden Limited is a family-owned transport company in Malta with 30+ staff, our own fleet and our own workshop. We have grown steadily on long-term relationships with corporate clients, and we are now building the management layer to match. This role is at the centre of it.

The role

You will run the daily operations and grow into running it all. You start hands-on: allocating work to vehicles and drivers, coordinating with clients throughout the day, on-call phone , and being the person who fixes it when a vehicle breaks down or a driver does not show up. Within six months, you take over the operational decisions the owners make today, as they step back. You report directly to the General Manager and have real authority to run the day.

What you will do

• Plan next-day and same-day work: allocate jobs to vehicles and drivers, keep the schedule realistic and full

• Manage the drivers day to day: rota, absence and holiday cover, timekeeping, standards

• Run the out-of-hours rota and take first response to breakdowns, accidents and no-shows

• Coordinate with clients daily, together with the office coordinator, whom you will manage

• Liaise with the workshop on fleet availability, defects and maintenance planning

• Own basic compliance: driver hours, licences, vehicle checks

• Put the processes in writing as you build them: rota, on-call, escalation

• Take on the operational decisions currently made by the directors: job priorities, sub-contracting, purchasing within agreed limits

What we are looking for

• 5+ years in transport or logistics operations, including directly managing drivers, a shift or a depot at a structured operator

• Experience running or working an on-call system, and still willing to take the early-morning call

• Calm and decisive under pressure; firm and fair with drivers; clear with clients

• Comfortable with scheduling software and spreadsheets; able to build a simple process and make it stick

• Fluent in Maltese and English: essential, since our drivers work in Maltese

• Thorough knowledge of Malta’s roads and routes

What we offer

• €35,000 – €42,000 depending on experience and company phone

• A defined path from running the desk to running the operation, with the authority to match
