Traveling Wind Technician III

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Traveling Wind Technician III to join our team and support the maintenance, commissioning, and repair of wind turbine systems across multiple locations. This role involves traveling to various wind farm sites to perform critical technical tasks, ensuring optimal turbine performance and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical and mechanical maintenance within the wind energy sector, with the ability to troubleshoot complex components and execute major repairs or replacements as needed.

Duties

• Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on wind turbines, including inspections and servicing of major components such as blades, gearboxes, generators, yaw motors, pitch motors, and hydraulic stations.
• Perform electrical Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safety during maintenance activities.
• Lead commissioning activities for new turbines or repowering projects to ensure proper startup and operation.
• Execute major component exchanges (MCE), including replacing generators (GEN), blades, gearboxes (GBX), yaw stacks (yaw gearboxes), pitch stacks (pitch gearboxes), and hydraulic stations.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic systems and other mechanical or electrical issues to restore turbine functionality efficiently.
• Collaborate with project teams during turbine repowering efforts and upgrades.
• Maintain detailed documentation of work performed, parts used, and issues encountered for compliance and reporting purposes.
• Travel frequently between wind farm locations, adhering to safety protocols and company policies.

Experience

• Proven experience working as a wind turbine technician or in a similar renewable energy maintenance role, preferably at an advanced level such as Technician III.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical components, and hydraulic stations within wind turbines.
• Experience with electrical Lockout/Tagout procedures is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex troubleshooting on turbines’ major components including blades, gearboxes, generators, yaw motors/gearboxes, pitch motors/gearboxes, and hydraulic stations.
• Ability to work independently in diverse environments while maintaining safety standards.
• Prior experience with commissioning processes and repowering projects is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with a proactive approach to maintenance challenges.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
