What they need
Good with numbers? Help local young people enjoy adventure, learn new skills and grow in confidence.
9th Southampton City Scouts is looking for a volunteer Treasurer to join our friendly team. We support more than 50 young people across our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections, and need someone to help us manage our finances and plan for the future.
You don’t need previous Scouting experience or an accounting qualification. If you’re organised, comfortable with figures and keen to support your local community, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll do
Working with the Group Lead Volunteer and Trustee Board, you’ll help to:
- Maintain accurate financial records and oversee the group’s bank accounts.
- Monitor income, payments and spending.
- Prepare clear financial updates for Trustee Board meetings.
- Support budgeting so we can fund activities and maintain our Scout hut.
- Prepare annual accounts and arrange their independent scrutiny as required.
- Help the Trustee Board make informed financial decisions.
What we’re looking for
- Confidence working with numbers and spreadsheets.
- Good organisation and attention to detail.
- A reliable approach and respect for confidentiality.
- Ability to explain financial information clearly.
- Willingness to work as part of a volunteer team.
Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, budgeting or charity finance would be helpful, but isn’t essential.
What you’ll gain
- The chance to make a meaningful difference to young people in Southampton.
- Experience in charity finance and governance.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and meet local volunteers.
- Support from the group and access to relevant Scouts training.
Much of the financial administration can be completed from home, alongside attending meetings as agreed. This role does not require you to lead weekly youth activities.
The Treasurer serves as a charity trustee. Appointment is subject to trustee eligibility, the Scouts’ volunteer appointment process and completion of relevant training and checks.
Interested? Apply through Indeed with a short introduction explaining your relevant skills and why you’d like to get involved. We’d be happy to arrange an informal chat about the role.
Pay: £0.01 per year
