What they need

Tree Climber / Bucket Truck Operator / Crew Leader

Mo’ Bettah Tree Service — Oahu, HI

Mo’ Bettah Tree Service is hiring an experienced Tree Climber / Bucket Truck Operator for production tree work throughout Oahu.

We are looking for someone with solid tree-work fundamentals who can work safely and efficiently in a production environment. You do not have to be a top-tier climber to apply. If you have good fundamentals, understand safe climbing and rigging practices, and are willing to learn, we are willing to train the right applicant to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional tree pruning and removals
  • Safely climb trees using appropriate arboricultural climbing systems
  • Perform tree work from a bucket truck when appropriate
  • Use proper rigging techniques to safely lower limbs and wood
  • Safely operate chainsaws and tree-service equipment
  • Evaluate work areas and identify hazards before and during operations
  • Communicate with groundsmen during climbing, cutting, and rigging operations
  • Follow the written scope of work/work order
  • Help plan an efficient and safe approach to completing each job
  • Maintain professional workmanship and job-site safety
  • Assist with directing and running the crew when assigned
  • Ensure the crew understands the scope of work and daily objectives
  • Maintain productivity while prioritizing safety and property protection

Climbing Qualifications

  • Previous professional tree-climbing experience
  • Experience climbing with ANSI-compliant arborist climbing equipment and systems
  • Understanding of climbing safety and tie-in fundamentals
  • Experience with practical tree-rigging techniques
  • Experience operating chainsaws aloft
  • Able to perform pruning and removal operations safely
  • Comfortable working at height
  • Able to communicate clearly with the ground crew

You do NOT need to be an elite or top-tier climber. We are willing to train the right person who already has the necessary basic climbing fundamentals, a strong work ethic, and a safety-first attitude.

Bucket Truck Experience

Applicants should have experience working from a bucket/aerial lift for production tree work, including:

  • Positioning for pruning and removal operations
  • Safe chainsaw use from the bucket
  • Working effectively with the ground crew
  • Understanding hazards associated with aerial tree operations

Driver / Operator Qualifications

The ideal applicant will also have:

  • Ability to safely drive a work truck with a trailer
  • Experience towing and backing trailers
  • Experience performing pre-trip equipment checks
  • Ability to safely transport crew members, equipment, and materials

Truck and trailer driving experience is strongly preferred for the climber position but is not mandatory for an otherwise qualified climber.

Crew Leader Qualifications

Applicants interested in taking on a crew-leader role should be able to:

  • Read and follow the scope of work on a work order
  • Explain the day’s scope to the crew
  • Assign tasks appropriately
  • Keep the crew productive and organized
  • Maintain a safe work site
  • Communicate professionally with management and crew members
  • Recognize when conditions require changing the work plan
  • Take responsibility for completing the assigned work correctly and efficiently

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Safety-conscious
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Experienced in professional tree work
  • Productive without sacrificing safety
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Able to take direction
  • Capable of giving clear direction when placed in a leadership role
  • Willing to continue learning and improving

If you’re an experienced tree worker with solid climbing fundamentals, bucket-truck experience, and practical rigging knowledge, we want to hear from you.

You don’t need to know everything on day one. We would rather hire someone with strong fundamentals, a good attitude, and safe work habits who can be trained to the next level.

Apply through Indeed and include details about your climbing experience, bucket-truck experience, rigging experience, tree removals/pruning experience, and truck/trailer driving experience.
