What they need
Overview
ZZ Chop Tree Care is a new, fast-growing tree care company in Ottawa, and we're looking for a dedicated, safety-conscious Tree Ground Worker to join our crew right away. You'll finish out the 2026 season with us, with a spot on the 2027 crew if it's a fit. This is a skilled, hands-on role on a professional tree crew, not just general labour. It's built for people who want to learn, take pride in their work and grow with the company. You'll build skills in rigging, chipper and material handling operation, chainsaw work, and other core tree care techniques, while helping keep Ottawa's properties safe and looking their best. In winter, crew members can pick up work with our sister company, ZZ Demolition.
Pay and Benefits
- $24–$28/hr depending on experience, full-time, 35–50 hrs/week with opportunity for more.
- $750 signing bonus, paid over your first 90 days.
- $750 return bonus when you come back for the 2027 season.
- Quarterly incentives for safe, efficient, high-quality work.
- Wage review at 6 months, with raises tied to the skills you've learned.
- Bi-weekly pay plus 4% vacation pay.
- Paid trial day to start.
- A clear growth path from Ground Worker to Climber, Crew Lead and Manager. Each step has skill milestones, like chainsaw and rigging sign-offs, climbing training and leading a crew day, and each comes with a pay increase.
Responsibilities
- Support tree pruning and removal operations from the ground, including crane jobs, following all safety protocols.
- Drag brush, feed the chipper and process wood efficiently.
- Operate material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support rigging to safely lower large branches and trees during removals and pruning.
- Uphold our standard of clean, professional job sites, leaving every property better than we found it.
- Inspect equipment and keep tools and the work area organized.
- Work closely with climbers and the crew lead to get jobs done safely and on time.
- Represent ZZ Chop professionally with customers on site.
Qualifications
- Valid Ontario G licence required. An A-restricted or AZ licence is an asset.
- Reliable, on time and hardworking, with a strong commitment to safety.
- Eager to learn new skills and take on more responsibility.
- Physically able to work outdoors in all weather, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- CSA-approved steel-toe boots.
- Tree, landscaping or construction experience is a plus, but not required. We train the right people.
This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a real career in tree care with a growing local company. Year-round work is targeted through tree season and winter demolition work, though winter hours aren't guaranteed.
