Trustee Opportunities – Finance & Legal
Aphasia Support | Yorkshire / North of England | Voluntary Positions
Help shape the future of a charity making a real difference.
Aphasia Support is a growing Yorkshire-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with aphasia, a communication condition that can significantly affect someone's ability to speak, understand, read or write.
As we look to expand our reach and impact across the North of England in 2026, we are seeking two new Trustees with professional expertise in Finance and Law to join our Board of Trustees.
These are exciting opportunities for experienced professionals who want to use their knowledge and skills to make a meaningful difference, while contributing to the strategic direction and long-term success of a growing charity.
The Opportunities
Finance Trustee
We are looking for a financially astute individual who can provide guidance, insight and oversight to support the charity's financial sustainability and future growth.
We would particularly welcome experience in:
- Financial management, accounting or financial leadership
- Budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Financial reporting, risk management and internal controls
- Strategic financial decision-making
- Financial governance and regulatory compliance
You may currently work, or have previously worked, as a Finance Director, CFO, Financial Controller, Accountant or in another senior finance-related position.
Your expertise will help the Board make informed financial decisions, strengthen financial oversight and support the charity's long-term ambitions.
Legal Trustee
We are seeking a legal professional who can bring sound judgement, commercial awareness and legal expertise to our Board.
We would particularly welcome experience in:
- Commercial, corporate, charity or employment law
- Legal compliance and regulatory requirements
- Corporate governance and risk management
- Reviewing policies, contracts and legal obligations
- Advising on legal considerations relating to organisational growth
You may be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Legal Counsel, Legal Director or another experienced legal professional.
Your expertise will help strengthen governance, support effective decision-making and ensure the charity is well positioned as it continues to develop.
What's Involved?
As a Trustee, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members and the charity's leadership team to provide strategic direction, constructive challenge and effective oversight.
Key commitments include:
- Attending three Trustee meetings annually via Zoom, plus one in-person meeting coinciding with the AGM, usually in October.
- Board meetings are generally held on Monday mornings between 10am and 12pm.
- Joining at least one Board subgroup: Finance, Strategy & Performance, or Governance. These meet four times annually via Zoom.
- Contributing professional expertise to relevant financial, legal, governance and strategic discussions.
- Supporting the charity's long-term strategy, values and sustainable growth.
- Participating in additional activities where your interests and availability allow.
Previous Trustee or Board experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in individuals who can combine professional expertise with a genuine commitment to making a positive difference.
