What they need

Steward of one of the region’s enduring community endowmentsThe Hutt Mana Charitable Trust is seeking two trustees to steward one of the region's enduring community endowments.

Established after the sale of the Wellington electricity network in the 1990s, the Trust holds an investment portfolio of approximately $50 million. Its purpose is to preserve and grow that capital in real terms while funding initiatives that improve wellbeing across Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua City and North Wellington. As a Trustee, you will act collectively with the board to protect the Trust's assets and direct funding where it delivers the greatest community benefit.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Governing in accordance with the Trust Deed and applicable legislation,
  • Protecting capital while supporting long-term growth of the investment portfolio,
  • Assessing grant applications across two funding rounds each year and monitoring their impact,
  • Overseeing long-term programmes, including driver licensing, Kids KiwiSaver and household energy efficiency,
  • Monitoring investment performance, approving budgets and financial statements, and overseeing the annual audit,
  • Engaging with community organisations and stakeholders as an ambassador for the Trust.

The Trust seeks trustees who collectively bring governance experience, commercial or financial understanding, community development, and Māori and Pacific leadership, alongside a demonstrated commitment to improving outcomes across the Trust's region.

Trustees meet approximately every six weeks and participate in grant assessment between meetings. A remunerated role, it should not impede a full-time professional commitment.
