Tugboat Chief Engineer

About the role

Take overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the tugboat's engine, machinery and electrical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain main engines, generators, pumps and other machinery onboard
• Carry out regular inspections, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery and equipment
• Ensure all machinery and equipment are maintained in good working-condition and ready for operation
• Supervise and guide engine crew in their daily duties and maintenance activities
• Maintain accurate engine-room logs, maintenance records and required reports
• Ensure compliance with Flag State, Class, ISM, STCW and company's safety requirements
• Monitor fuel, lubricants, spare parts and other engine-room requirements
• Respond effectively to machinery breakdowns and onboard emergencies
• Report defects, major repairs and maintenance requirements to the company's marine superintendent

About you

• Valid Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency recognised by the relevant Flag State
• Valid STCW and mandatory safety certificates
• Relevant experience as Chief Engineer onboard tugboats
• Good knowledge of marine diesel engines, generators, hydraulic systems and auxiliary machinery
• Experience in towing, harbour, offshore, or barge operations is an advantage
• Good leadership, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
