Tutor (Independent Contractor)
This is the general tutor pool application. Tutors will service a few counties within the state of Indiana.
About Indiana Learning Center LLC
Indiana Learning Center LLC is seeking passionate, dependable, and student-focused tutors to join our growing team. Our mission is to provide personalized, high-quality educational support that helps students Learn, Grow, and Succeed. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' academic development while maintaining the flexibility and independence of an independent contractor role.
Position Summary
Tutors provide individualized academic support to students in PreK through 12th grade across a variety of subjects and skill levels. Instruction may include mathematics, English language arts, reading, writing, homework assistance, test preparation, remediation, enrichment, and foundational skill development. Tutors help students strengthen their academic abilities, build confidence, and develop independent learning skills.
Instruction is tailored to each student's academic needs, learning style, and goals. Lessons are scheduled based on tutor and student availability and may take place at an Indiana Learning Center partner location, a mutually agreed-upon public location, or through a virtual classroom. Opportunities may include both in-person and online instruction depending on student demand, subject needs, and geographic location.
Responsibilities
Tutors are responsible for providing effective, individualized academic instruction and adapting their teaching strategies to support student understanding and progress. This includes assisting with coursework and assignments, reinforcing foundational concepts, preparing students for assessments, and identifying areas where additional support may be beneficial.
Tutors are expected to communicate professionally and respectfully with students, parents, guardians, and Indiana Learning Center LLC representatives. This includes coordinating lesson schedules, honoring scheduled commitments, and promptly communicating any cancellations, delays, or changes in availability.
Tutors must maintain accurate records through Indiana Learning Center's approved systems, including attendance, lesson dates, lesson notes, and other required documentation. All tutors are expected to maintain a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment, protect confidential student and family information, and comply with applicable company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate strong knowledge of at least one academic subject and the ability to explain concepts clearly to students of varying ages, abilities, and learning needs. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, although students actively working toward a bachelor's degree may also be considered based on their education, experience, and qualifications.
The ability to work independently, communicate effectively, adapt instruction to individual students, and maintain professionalism with students and families is required. Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or other educational experience is preferred. A bachelor's degree in Education, the applicant's area of academic expertise, or a related field is also preferred.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications are required, or candidates must be willing to obtain them before providing services. Successful completion of any required background screening is also required.
Schedule and Compensation
This is a flexible, part-time Independent Contractor (1099) position. Lessons are arranged based on student demand, subject requirements, geographic availability, and tutor availability. Evening and after-school availability is preferred, and weekend opportunities may be available depending on student needs. Tutors may provide services in person, virtually, or through a combination of both.
Compensation is competitive and may vary based on experience, qualifications, subject expertise, and lesson assignments. Specific compensation arrangements will be discussed during the application and onboarding process.
As an independent contractor, tutors are responsible for their own tax obligations, business expenses, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position does not establish an employer-employee relationship with Indiana Learning Center LLC.
