Full-Time O/A Level Tutor – Mathematics & English

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated, experienced, and student-focused Full-Time O/A Level Tutor – Mathematics & English to join our online teaching team.

This is a full-time work-from-home position focused on delivering high-quality online tuition to O/A Level students. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons, supporting individual student needs, assigning and assessing coursework, monitoring academic progress, and maintaining professional communication with students, parents, and the internal team.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of the British curriculum and O/A Level requirements, excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to create an engaging and structured online learning experience.

Working Hours

• 11:30 AM–8:30 PM UK Time, Monday–Friday
• 1-hour daily break
• Working hours may occasionally vary based on student schedules and business requirements.
• Reasonable notice will be provided where possible for any changes to the regular schedule.

Education & Academic Requirements

• Completed O Levels and A Levels.
• Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, English, a related subject, or another relevant discipline.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the British curriculum and O/A Level academic requirements.
• A Science background at O/A Level is preferred, particularly for candidates teaching Mathematics.
• Candidates must have completed their formal education; current students will not be considered for this position.

Teaching Experience & Qualifications

• Previous teaching/tutoring experience at O/A Level or equivalent secondary-school level.
• Classroom teaching experience is required; online/virtual teaching experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience teaching Mathematics and English to O/A Level students is highly desirable.
• A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, or an equivalent qualification is preferred but not mandatory where the candidate has strong relevant teaching experience.
• Strong understanding of student assessment, lesson planning, and academic progress monitoring.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Lesson Delivery

• Deliver engaging live online Mathematics and English lessons to O/A Level students.
• Prepare structured individual lesson plans aligned with the relevant curriculum and student learning objectives.
• Adapt teaching methods, explanations, examples, and learning activities according to individual student needs.
• Create or deliver recorded/video lessons where required.
• Explain complex concepts clearly and use appropriate examples, exercises, and learning resources.
• Maintain a structured and engaging online learning environment.

Student Support & Engagement

• Provide additional academic support to students who require further explanation or assistance.
• Encourage students to ask questions and actively participate during lessons.
• Identify areas where students are struggling and provide appropriate intervention and support.
• Communicate academic concerns or significant learning difficulties to the relevant team.
• Maintain professional and constructive communication with students and, where applicable, parents/guardians.

Homework & Assessment

• Assign appropriate reading, homework, projects, and practice activities.
• Review and check assigned work within the required timelines.
• Conduct quizzes, tests, and other assessments through the company's online learning systems.
• Grade student work accurately and consistently.
• Provide constructive, actionable feedback to help students improve.
• Monitor individual student performance and academic progress.

Records & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of lessons delivered, attendance, assignments, assessments, and student progress.
• Complete required academic reports and progress updates.
• Keep lesson plans, teaching materials, and student records organised and up to date.
• Follow company procedures for academic reporting, documentation, and communication.
• Communicate any significant academic, attendance, or behavioural concerns to the appropriate team.

Online Teaching & Technical Requirements

As this is a work-from-home position, candidates should have:

• Strong computer literacy and digital skills.
• Confidence using Zoom and other online teaching platforms.
• Ability to work with e-learning systems, digital teaching resources, online assessments, and shared documents.
• A reliable computer/laptop suitable for online teaching.
• A functional webcam and microphone/headset.
• A stable and reliable internet connection.
• A quiet, professional, and suitable environment for conducting online classes.
• The ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues independently.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Maintain professional communication and conduct with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
• Maintain student confidentiality and handle academic and personal information appropriately.
• Follow all applicable student safeguarding requirements and company safeguarding procedures.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when communicating with students.
• Demonstrate punctuality and consistent attendance.
• Deliver scheduled lessons reliably and notify the relevant team promptly about any unavoidable absence or technical issue.
• Follow company teaching, academic, reporting, communication, and safeguarding policies.
• Maintain a professional standard of conduct during all online interactions.

• Experience with the British curriculum.
• Previous online or virtual tutoring experience.
• Experience using Zoom and e-learning platforms.
• Experience creating digital teaching materials or video lessons.
• Recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, or equivalent.
• Experience supporting students preparing for O/A Level examinations.

Important Note

This is a full-time teaching position. Candidates should be able to commit to the required Monday–Friday working schedule and demonstrate a genuine interest in building a long-term career in education and online tutoring.

I also made two important structural changes: Science is now clearly a preference rather than an automatic rejection, and the teaching certificate is preferred rather than mandatory where strong teaching experience can substantiate the candidate's capability. If your actual hiring policy requires either of those to be mandatory, those clauses can be tightened accordingly.
