What they need

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Underground Fixed Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance of underground fixed plant and infrastructure within a mining operation. This role provides frontline supervision to maintenance personnel and contractors, ensuring equipment availability, regulatory compliance, and execution of planned and corrective maintenance activities.

The Supervisor works closely with Underground Mining, Engineering, Planning, Safety, and Processing teams to minimize equipment downtime and support production targets while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible safety leadership and promote a strong safety culture across the maintenance team.

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with site safety standards, mining regulations, procedures, and environmental requirements.

  • Conduct and participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, field inspections, and incident investigations.

  • Ensure appropriate isolation, lockout/tagout, permitting, and safe work practices are followed.

  • Identify hazards and implement effective controls to eliminate or minimize risks.

  • Ensure personnel are appropriately trained, competent, and authorized for assigned tasks.

  • Supervise underground fixed plant maintenance activities, including planned, preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance.

  • Coordinate daily work activities and allocate personnel, equipment, materials, and contractors according to operational priorities.

  • Monitor maintenance execution against scheduled plans and ensure work is completed to required quality standards.

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and prioritize repairs based on safety, production, and operational requirements.

  • Ensure maintenance work orders, job plans, inspection records, and equipment history are accurately completed.

  • Monitor equipment condition and identify recurring failures or opportunities for reliability improvement.

  • Work with Maintenance Planning and Engineering teams to develop and execute weekly and shutdown maintenance plans.

  • Coordinate planned maintenance activities with Underground Operations to minimize production interruptions.

  • Ensure required parts, tooling, equipment, permits, and resources are available before work commences.

  • Assist with maintenance budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.

  • Coordinate contractors and ensure contractor activities meet site standards and scope requirements.

  • Lead, coach, and develop tradespeople, technicians, apprentices, and maintenance personnel.

  • Establish clear expectations regarding safety, productivity, quality, and accountability.

  • Conduct performance discussions and provide regular feedback and mentoring.

  • Support workforce planning, skills development, succession planning, and competency assessments.

  • Promote effective communication and teamwork across shifts and departments.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

  • Relevant post-trade qualification in Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Supervisory, leadership, or management training is preferred.

  • Current mine-site-required safety certifications and statutory qualifications, as applicable to the jurisdiction.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet site access and medical requirements.

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in an underground mining environment, preferably involving fixed plant and infrastructure.

  • 2+ years of frontline supervisory or team-lead experience in mining maintenance.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising multidisciplinary maintenance teams in a high-risk operational environment.

  • Strong mechanical maintenance experience with underground fixed plant and associated infrastructure.

  • Working knowledge of preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance practices.

  • Experience with CMMS platforms and maintenance work management processes.

  • Experience coordinating contractors and managing maintenance activities during planned shutdowns.

  • Demonstrated understanding of mining safety systems, risk management, isolation procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience troubleshooting equipment failures and implementing effective corrective actions.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing maintenance and production requirements.
