UI/UX Designer, Lead

BigBear.ai is looking for a talented UI/UX Designer to join our expanding team. You have a natural knack for human-computer interaction design (HCID) and a passion for crafting elegant, user-centric solutions that elevate our applications. With your expertise in modern JavaScript frameworks and design thinking, you’ll help shape intuitive, engaging digital experiences that truly make an impact.

What you will do

• Dive deep into research to analyze and unpack users’ digital behaviors and interaction patterns, gaining insights that drive meaningful design decisions
• Develop innovative UI and UX strategies that align with our business goals and elevate the user experience
• Create and maintain a rich library of digital assets — from interface design files and wireframes to interactive prototypes — using leading tools like Sketch and InVision
• Design, build, and sustain clean, reusable JavaScript, HTML, and CSS code that brings your designs to life with precision and performance
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand the technical constraints and business realities, offering valuable guidance to ensure solutions are both creative and feasible

What you should have

• A Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of professional experience in software development, specializing in modern JavaScript frameworks
• 7+ years of hands-on experience developing dynamic applications using Vue, React, and Angular, backed by a strong portfolio or live examples showcasing your code
• Deep understanding of JavaScript tooling including preprocessors and transpilers like PUG, SCSS, and Babel
• Solid experience working with Node.js for backend and tooling purposes
• Proficiency with Git and experience navigating complex code versioning workflows on large teams, including branching strategies, pull requests, and thorough code reviews
• Familiarity with C#/.NET technologies is a plus but not required
• Skilled in visual design with experience in image authoring tools like Photoshop or Illustrator
• Expertise in wireframing and UI/UX design tools such as MockPlus, Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD
• A portfolio that demonstrates not only your JavaScript proficiency but also a strong grasp of SOLID design principles through plugins, node packages, or reusable components
• Expert-level knowledge of CSS, including extension languages like Less and Sass, and associated preprocessor tools
• Mastery of HTML5 and best practices for building modern, accessible web interfaces
• Experience designing interactive interfaces and building clickable prototypes using tools such as Sketch, InVision, or Axure
• Comfortable and proficient using Git version control and the command line to streamline development workflows

What we'd like you to have

• 7+ years of proven experience as a skilled front-end developer, delivering polished, high-performance user interfaces
• 7+ years of expertise as a UI/UX designer, with a keen eye for creating intuitive and engaging digital experiences
• Mastery in writing semantic, accessible HTML and CSS—including advanced techniques like Flexbox, Grid, CSS Custom Properties, CSS Functions, and Scalable CSS—all structured using the BEM naming methodology
• Extensive experience with modern JavaScript (ESNext), confidently leveraging cutting-edge features like Module Syntax and native Web Components to build modular, maintainable codebases
