Role Summary

The Undergraduate Engineering Intern contributes to technical projects and daily operations through design support, analysis, documentation, testing, and project coordination. FLS Summer Internships program offers hands-on training with field experts and a Professional Development Program designed to help you develop skills that you can take back to the classroom and into your career.

Based on business needs and candidate interests, internship opportunities may exist within engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, project, or technical-support teams.

Potential Responsibilities:

  • Support technical design and documentation, including CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, work instructions, job routings, and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), as applicable.
  • Collect and analyze data, review test results, identify trends, prepare reports, and help validate product or process improvements.
  • Assist engineering laboratories, manufacturing, and shop-floor teams with testing, production support, time studies, process mapping, project tracking, and issue resolution.
  • Contribute to quality, safety, root-cause problem solving, LEAN, process standardization, and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Help ensure work meets engineering standards and applicable customer, contract, quality, schedule, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, quality, materials, project management, sales, suppliers, and other partners while providing responsive, customer-focused support.
  • Apply SQDCG principles—Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth—and complete assigned work accurately, safely, and on time.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or another related engineering discipline, and in good academic standing.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
  • Must be an undergraduate student starting junior or senior year in the Fall following the internship.
  • Available for a Summer internship from May through August.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and the ability to organize, analyze, and clearly present information.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a hands-on, fast-paced, team-oriented environment that may include office, laboratory, and manufacturing settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to CAD/CAM tools, engineering drawings, or SolidWorks
  • Prior industrial, manufacturing, laboratory, project, leadership, or internship experience.

What You Can Expect:

  • A meaningful assignment aligned with business needs, your academic background, and your development goals.
  • Hands-on learning, regular feedback, and collaboration with professionals across technical and business functions.
  • Involvement in a professional development program designed to build workplace and career skills.
  • A dedicated mentor who will provide guidance, perspective, and support throughout the internship.
  • Participation in an FLS Cares corporate-giving activity that connects interns with Flowserve’s commitment to community impact.
  • Learning at a company that places a strong emphasis on safety, quality, customer focus, continuous learning, and collaboration.

Specific assignments and work environments may vary by host team. Placement is based on business needs, candidate qualifications, interests, and alignment with available internship opportunities.
