Salary up to £125,000 plus bonus

We've been retained by an established specialist in litigation and legal expenses insurance, underwriting after-the-event (ATE) and related legal risk with the backing of highly rated capacity partners. Following sustained growth, and with a clear plan for the next phase, they are looking to appoint an Underwriting Director to lead their ATE underwriting function.

This is a leadership role rather than one holding the pen. You will set the direction of the underwriting business, lead the people who carry it out and steer the function through a period of growth and structural change, with the authority to make that change stick.

You will own the ATE underwriting strategy and answer for its results, setting the process and standards and making sure the team underwrites consistently to them. You will lead, develop and hold to account a team of underwriters, building the capability and structure the business needs to scale. You will also lead the change programme that embeds a new underwriting structure and future-proofs the platform to deliver for multiple capacity providers. Alongside the executive committee, you will manage those capacity relationships closely, giving partners clear sight of performance, governance and controls. Working with Operations, you will make sure process, systems, data and claims keep pace with the underwriting, so growth doesn't outrun the controls behind it.
