Underwriting Shared Services Intern – Summer 2027

What You’ll Do: As the Underwriting (UW) Shared Services Intern you will assist Staff Underwriters from within the UW Shared Services department. The department supports personal lines, commercial lines, and ag underwriting teams. You will have project opportunities within the Underwriting department, with potential to assist with opportunities in other departments. These may include responsibilities to support our business units.

As an intern, you will also participate in corporate activities designed to provide exposure to our industry, organization, and culture. Our internship program follows an 80/10/10 approach:

• 80% of your time will be spent performing meaningful work and project-based assignments within your department.
• 10% of your time will be dedicated to learning from and networking with employees in other areas of the organization.
• 10% of your time will be spent participating in shared internship experiences that provide insight into our culture, leadership, and business operations.

This opportunity is a great way for you to get your foot in the door gaining entry level underwriting and insurance experience, as well as general corporate real-world exposure.

What It Takes to Join Our Team:

• Be a current college student, majoring in business, finance, or agriculture is a plus.
• A quick learner who is looking to learn new concepts and ideas, and able to learn basic understanding of property insurance policies.
• Familiarity with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.
• Must be detail oriented and willing to ask questions.
• Be available to work 38.75 hours per week during the Summer 2027 in-person from our office in West Des Moines, Iowa.
• Please note housing is not provided.
