Unix Admin/Engineer

About the role

This is a dual-platform role for a Junior Unix Administrator supporting the administration and operation of both IBM AIX (on IBM Power) and Oracle Solaris (SPARC / x86) environments. The administrator works under guidance and within defined processes, building competence across both platforms, and escalates complex problems to senior administrators.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshooting, problem investigation, monitoring, and performance analysis and optimization across the AIX and Solaris estates
• Disaster-recovery and security-management planning
• Plan and deploy AIX and Solaris application servers in production based on defined processes; actively maintain and update productive systems
• Provide 2nd- and 3rd-level support for responsible IT systems; analyze and correct incidents and problems including vulnerabilities
• Install, configure, update and troubleshoot OS packages and software on active production servers, ensuring compliance with organizational processes
• Implement changes and releases in the responsible area
• Perform health checks and proactively monitor systems for performance, stability and availability; handle and eliminate identified deficiencies
• OS-level patching and security patching aligned with organizational patching principles and guidelines
• Automation of system sequences via scripting (e.g. shell) and automation tooling (e.g. Ansible Automation Platform)
• Support and accompany server migration, consolidation and modernization projects

About you

• Up to 3 years of professional experience
• Essential knowledge of AIX and/or Solaris administration and virtualization concepts (LPAR / Solaris Zones & Kernel Zones)
• Ability to provide L1 / L2 support for incidents – resolve issues and escalate critical problems to senior administrators
• Ability to independently install, configure and manage software packages in production, following organizational processes
• Basic scripting (e.g. shell) to automate tasks and improve operational efficiency
• Ability to maintain and update detailed system configuration documentation for audit and operational purposes
• Operational support capability for x86 / SPARC servers running Solaris and IBM Power servers running AIX
• Ability to contribute to operational architecture and propose improvements in system design and infrastructure management
