Upholsterer

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and reliable Upholsterer to join our workshop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for upholstering a range of contract furniture to a consistently high standard, working from specifications, drawings and upholstery schedules.

You will work with a variety of furniture, fabrics and materials, producing finished pieces that meet our quality, durability and production requirements.

Key Responsibilities/ Requirements

• Vaild UK driving license
• Occasional on site work
• Previous experience working in upholstery
• Upholster contract furniture including chairs, armchairs, sofas, banquettes, booths, headboards and other bespoke items.
• Strip, repair and re-upholster existing furniture where required.
• Cut and prepare fabrics, vinyl, leather and other upholstery materials accurately.
• Fit foam, webbing, springs and other upholstery components.
• Operate upholstery and workshop tools safely and effectively.
• Read and work from drawings, measurements, specifications and work orders.
• Ensure patterns, seams, pleats, buttons, piping and detailing are accurately positioned.
• Maintain a consistently high-quality finish suitable for commercial and contract environments.
• Work efficiently to meet production schedules and agreed deadlines.
• Minimise material waste through accurate cutting and efficient working practices.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working area.
• Follow company health and safety procedures and workshop standards.
• Work collaboratively with other upholsterers, machinists, frame makers and production staff.

Essential:

• Proven experience as an upholsterer, preferably within a contract, commercial or furniture manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of traditional and modern upholstery techniques.
• Experience working with a range of fabrics, vinyls and other upholstery materials.
• Ability to work accurately from drawings, measurements and specifications.
• Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of finished work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
• Good understanding of workshop health and safety.
• Ability to work to deadlines without compromising quality.

Desirable:

• Experience in commercial hospitality, hotel, restaurant, healthcare or office furniture.
• Experience with bespoke or high-end furniture.
• Sewing/machining experience.
• Experience working with leather and vinyl.
• Knowledge of different foam types, densities and upholstery materials.
• Previous experience working to contract furniture specifications.
