The Primary Care Alliance CIC is a GP federation delivering primary care services across Berkshire West, covering Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire. We work with local practices, PCNs and wider health and care partners to improve access and provide services closer to home.

Role Description

We’re recruiting locum GPs for regular sessions at Reading Urgent Care Centre (UCC), based at Royal Berkshire Hospital, to provide additional support for ED winter pressures.

You’ll assess and treat low-acuity patients streamed from ED into the UCC, with 15-minute face-to-face appointments. Responsibilities include clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, safety-netting and onward referral where needed, supported by clear documentation on EMIS.

This is an on-site, self-employed locum opportunity, with ongoing sessions available through to March 2027. We’d particularly welcome GPs who can commit to regular weekly sessions.

Shifts and Pay

* £86 per hour – self-employed locum rate.

* Shifts: 8am–4pm or 1pm–6pm. We also have other shifts up until 10pm Monday to Sunday

* A 30-minute unpaid break applies to the 8am–4pm shift.

* Regular work available through to March 2027.

Qualifications and Experience

* Qualified GP with full GMC registration, a licence to practise and inclusion on the GP Register.

* Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List.

* Experience assessing and managing acute presentations in UK general practice.

* Confident clinical decision-making, with appropriate safety-netting and escalation.

* Good communication skills and the ability to work alongside the UCC and ED teams.

* Urgent care or out-of-hours experience is desirable.
