Registered Nurse – Urgent Care

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Headquarters Workforce Care Clinic (WCC) located at the St. Elizabeths Campus in Washington, DC. Working as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, the RN delivers occupational health, urgent care, and mission-related clinical services to DHS personnel and other authorized populations. Responsibilities include patient assessment, treatment, emergency response, occupational health support, and documentation, while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with established clinical protocols and Government policies.

Place of Performance: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Headquarters Workforce Care Clinic (WCC), St. Elizabeths Campus, United States Coast Guard Munro Building Lower Level 2 (LL2), Room 2J14-01, Washington, DC 20032

Work Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday during Government-established clinic hours. Duty hours may be adjusted based on clinic workload and mission requirements. On-call support may be required during Government-directed events, emergency activations, or mission-critical operations. Tentative Start Date: September 22, 2026

Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or graduate nursing program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience as a licensed Registered Nurse in: Urgent Care, Emergency Department, Ambulatory Clinic, or Comparable clinical setting
• Current, full, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in a U.S. state, territory, or compact state permitting practice at the duty location.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Must complete the required DHS background investigation and suitability determination before assignment.
• Experience using Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, Privacy Act, and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Occupational Health.
• Experience in Emergency Care.
• Experience supporting Federal healthcare environments.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Occupational Health certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform patient intake, triage, and initial clinical assessments.
• Conduct focused nursing assessments and document clinical findings.
• Provide nursing care for acute, non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
• Assist healthcare providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Administer medications through approved routes including oral, intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous, and topical.
• Perform wound care, splinting, electrocardiograms (EKGs), vital sign monitoring, and point-of-care testing.
• Collect and properly process laboratory specimens.
• Identify patients requiring escalation of care and coordinate referrals or transfers.
• Respond to medical emergencies and assist with patient stabilization.
• Support occupational health services including pre-employment examinations, surveillance examinations, and return-to-work evaluations.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
• Support clinic operations, infection prevention, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide patient education and promote continuity of care.
• Participate in clinic readiness and mission support activities.
