The employee assists the Utility Systems Supervisor with coordinating daily work assignments, organizing field crews, monitoring work in progress, providing technical guidance and training, and ensuring assigned work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with City standards and established procedures.
The Utility Systems Lead Technician is distinguished from the Utility Systems Technician III by the regular responsibility for leading and coordinating the work of assigned employees and serving as the lead worker on field activities. The position is distinguished from the Utility Systems Supervisor in that it does not normally have responsibility for formal employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, hiring, budgeting, or other administrative supervisory functions.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Utility Systems Supervisor with considerable latitude in the use of initiative, independent judgment, and technical expertise in carrying out assigned field operations.

- Operates heavy equipment, specialized vehicles, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, tools, and other equipment used in water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance, repair, and construction.
- Completes and reviews work orders, equipment and vehicle inspection records, field reports, inspection logs, sketches, measurements, and other documentation associated with assigned field activities.
