UX/UI Designer

About the role

Effect is a digital agency delivering innovative and user-friendly digital solutions for our clients. A designer is part of a cross-functional team that ships high-quality user experiences. Our designer will own client web design projects from end to end, crafting user experiences that are useful, intuitive and grounded in user needs.

This role is for someone who is willing to challenge the initial design brief in a way that helps people see the problem differently. You’ll work closely with developers and project managers to deliver solutions that add value for end users and bring a client’s vision to life.

What you’ll be doing

• Design user interfaces for our clients, either in collaboration with other designers or independently, that deliver high-quality user experience
• Set up comprehensive design systems and produce work that is consistent with existing branding and style guides
• Using methods such as wireframes and prototyping, you will communicate your ideas and iterate on them quickly
• Design and deliver marketing and sales collateral as required for projects and products
• Conduct user research activities - observing, listening and collecting data as customers use a design and apply what you have learned to create a great experience for our customers
• Create and produce developer-ready assets for your designs with clear instructions for implementation
• Through running workshops, presenting concepts or attending meetings, you will work alongside our clients to deliver their vision
• Adopt best practices of HTML/CSS and JavaScript into your designs and champion UX by articulating the benefits of design activities and best practice UX design standards

Typical daily tasks will include:

• Attending meetings such as daily standups, design meetings, and client meetings
• Communicating with the team and clients on status of work in progress
• Working on current client or internal projects, including tasks such as running workshops or other discovery activities, completing user research, UX/UI design, handover to developers.

What we’re looking for

• 5 years working on web design projects (agency experience across both private and public sectors)
• Knowledge of Figma and the Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
• Experience with user interface design patterns, user-centered design methodologies and user research activities
• Experience integrating designs into a CMS such as Umbraco or WordPress
• Some understanding of software development practices, particularly Agile
• Some understanding of using AI and creating agents to assist with tasks, or a willingness to learn
• A commitment to quality and an eye for detail
• Excellent problem-solving ability
• The ability to communicate effectively and good interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with design tools, marketing practices and development processes
