What they need

At Agilent, we design solutions that help scientists solve some of the world’s most important challenges. From advancing life-changing therapies to ensuring the quality and safety of the world around us, Agilent technologies contribute to a better quality of life.

As part of our global UX team, you will help transform the laboratories that transform the world. You will shape how users navigate, search, monitor, configure, and interact with an increasingly connected ecosystem of laboratory software.

This is a hands-on UX design role with a strong focus on interaction architecture and reusable experience patterns. You will define how common capabilities such as navigation, search, dashboards, tables, filtering, notifications, and settings should work consistently across a software platform and its connected applications. Your work will bridge product and platform needs, turning complex requirements into understandable and scalable user experiences.

Located at our Waldbronn site near Karlsruhe, the Usability and Design Center works with Product Management, Product Owners, Software Developers, architects, scientists, and other experts across Agilent sites worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product Management, Product Owners, software teams, architects, and UX colleagues to understand user needs, workflows, business goals, technical constraints, and product requirements across multiple projects
  • Define and evolve the interaction architecture and scalable UX patterns for shared capabilities such as navigation, search, dashboards, tables, filtering, notifications, settings, and onboarding, establishing UX governance and consistency across the software ecosystem
  • Translate complex user, platform, and technical requirements into clear interaction models, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and implementation-ready UX specifications
  • Establish consistent behavior across different applications while allowing products to address their specific workflows and user needs
  • Explore, evaluate, and validate alternative interaction models with users and stakeholders, turning findings into informed design decisions
  • Collaborate with product-line UX designers and the design system team to identify, validate, and translate scalable experience patterns into reusable components, guidelines, and specifications
  • Work with cross-functional teams from early definition through implementation, reviewing concepts for consistency and reuse and helping establish platform experience principles and UX governance

Qualifications

  • Degree in User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing complex software applications, platforms, enterprise products, or connected digital ecosystems
  • Strong expertise in interaction design, information architecture, workflow design, and prototyping, with the ability to translate complex user, business, and technical requirements into intuitive interaction models
  • Demonstrated ability to define reusable experience patterns across products, applications, or teams, balancing immediate needs with long-term consistency and scalability
  • Experience designing data-rich interfaces such as dashboards, tables, search experiences, filters, configuration tools, or administrative applications, supported by strong Figma and interactive prototyping skills
  • Familiarity with design systems and experience collaborating with software architects, Product Management, development teams, and UX designers to translate interaction patterns into component behavior and guidelines
  • Excellent communication and skills, with a proactive, structured, and collaborative working style
  • Fluent command of English; German is beneficial
  • Willingness to travel internationally on occasion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing enterprise software, SaaS products, scientific applications, or other complex technical systems
  • Experience contributing to platform-level UX, shared service experiences, or cross-product information architecture
  • Experience working with accessibility requirements and responsive web applications
  • Familiarity with agile product development and design QA
  • Experience with instrument-connected software, laboratory workflows, or regulated environments

Why Join Us?

This role offers the opportunity to define more than individual features or screens. You will shape the interaction foundations that determine how an ecosystem of connected applications works and feels for its users.

You will:

  • Work on meaningful products: Design solutions that support scientists, laboratories, and research around the world with interaction models that can improve multiple applications, services, and workflows
  • Create coherence: Help users move confidently across connected software without having to relearn familiar interactions
  • Strong UX community & modern environment: Join a globally connected and international UX team in a collaborative, supportive environment built on trust, psychological safety, and open feedback - where diverse perspectives are valued and the team culture is actively shaped and lived.
  • Growth, Rewards, Amenities: Benefit from continuous learning and development opportunities, access to conferences, and regular feedback to support your personal development and professional growth —and amenities such as sports, cultural programs, and on-site cafeteria.
  • Work sustainably: Benefit from a hybrid working model and a culture focused on quality and long-term impact
