Van Driver & Site Support Operative

Location: Hertford, SG13 8QL (with travel to project sites, usually in London)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

About the Role

MGL Projects is looking for a reliable, practical and hardworking Van Driver & Site Support Operative to join our growing team.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining the delivery of materials to our construction/project sites with general support to our site teams.

You'll be responsible for ensuring the right materials and supplies reach the right sites on time, helping with unloading and moving materials, and assisting with general site duties when required.

Unlike a traditional multi-drop delivery role, you'll typically be making one or two deliveries per day, allowing you to spend time supporting our site teams.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being active, takes pride in their work and is happy to get stuck in wherever needed.

Key Responsibilities

Van Driving & Deliveries

• Load the company van with the materials, tools and supplies required for each day's deliveries.
• Safely transport materials to designated project sites, typically completing one or two deliveries per day.
• Unload deliveries and assist with moving materials to the required location on site, including where access is restricted.
• Ensure materials are delivered safely, accurately and on time.
• Return the van to head office at the end of the working day.
• Carry out basic daily vehicle safety checks and ensure the van is kept clean, tidy and roadworthy.

Site Support

• Assist site teams with general, non-skilled labouring duties when deliveries are completed.
• Help move, organise and distribute materials and supplies around site.
• Support with keeping work areas clean, tidy and safe.
• Assist with other practical tasks as directed by the Site or Project Manager, within your training and capabilities.
• Follow all site health and safety procedures and use the appropriate protective equipment.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Full, clean UK driving licence suitable for driving a company van.
• Previous experience driving a van, ideally in a delivery or commercial environment.
• Comfortable undertaking physical work, including loading, unloading and moving construction materials safely.
• Reliable, punctual and able to manage your working day effectively.
• A practical, flexible attitude and willingness to support colleagues.
• Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
• A responsible approach to vehicle safety and site health and safety.

Desirable

• Previous experience working on construction sites or in a building materials environment.
• Experience delivering construction materials, tools or equipment.
• A valid CSCS card appropriate to the site duties being undertaken.
