What they need

Vehicle Detailing Technician

Detail Fix | Newcastle & Lake Macquarie

$35–$40+ per hour casual + super, based on demonstrated capability
Approximately 30 hours per week across 4 days
Competency-based progression

If you're good at what you do, we want to hear from you.

Detail Fix is looking for a capable, hands-on person who learns quickly, takes pride in doing things properly and wants to become genuinely skilled at their work.

You might already be an experienced detailer, or you might come from a workshop, tyre shop, trade, cleaning, hospitality, landscaping, warehouse or another hands-on environment.

Professional detailing experience is valued, but it isn't essential.

We're more interested in what you can demonstrate: work ethic, attention to detail, learning ability, technical curiosity, ownership and productive pace.

This is not a junior or entry-level position. We're looking for someone with the underlying capability to develop quickly into a technician we can trust to complete normal detailing work independently.

The role:

You'll initially work closely alongside the owner, learning the Detail Fix systems, standards and workflow.

Most days you'll meet at our Cardiff base before travelling together to customer locations around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. A typical day involves completing one or more vehicles at customer homes or workplaces, working across both interior and exterior detailing.

The work includes:

  • Exterior and interior vehicle detailing
  • Maintenance and full interior details
  • Stain removal and interior treatment
  • Exterior decontamination
  • Basic machine polishing and paint enhancement
  • Ozone treatment
  • Safe use of detailing chemicals and equipment
  • Learning vehicle materials, surfaces and appropriate treatment methods
  • Inspecting and checking your own work

As your competence develops, you'll take ownership of larger parts of each job and progress towards independently completing routine services.

Who we're looking for

You'll likely suit Detail Fix if you:

  • Learn practical skills quickly and apply feedback
  • Notice things other people miss
  • Take pride in the finished result
  • Work with purpose and at a productive pace
  • Look for what needs doing rather than waiting to be told
  • Are honest about mistakes and take responsibility for fixing them
  • Take care around vehicles, tools and customer property
  • Enjoy understanding how things work
  • Want to develop technical skills and greater responsibility

You don't need to know everything already.

But when you're shown something, given feedback and given another opportunity to perform it, we expect to see improvement.

What we offer

$35–$40+ per hour casual + super, with starting rate based on demonstrated capability.

Progression at Detail Fix is based on competence, not simply time served.

As you demonstrate greater skill, quality, productivity and independence, there is opportunity for increased pay, technical training, responsibility, performance incentives and future leadership opportunities.

We expect a lot from our people, and we want strong performance to be recognised.

Hours:

Approximately 30 hours per week across four weekdays, with additional hours sometimes available including Saturdays.

As a mobile detailing business, exact finishing times can vary depending on jobs, travel and vehicle condition.

Requirements

You must:

  • Hold a current Australian driver's licence allowing you to drive manual vehicles
  • Be confident driving and manoeuvring manual and automatic customer vehicles
  • Have reliable transport
  • Be able to travel to our Cardiff base and jobs around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie
  • Be legally entitled to work in Australia for the required hours
  • Be comfortable with physical, hands-on work outdoors
  • Be reliable and communicate professionally

Previous experience in detailing, automotive, workshops, trades, cleaning or other practical work is highly regarded but not required.

How to apply:

Apply through Indeed and complete the application questions.

We're interested in what you've actually done, not just your previous job title.

Shortlisted applicants may progress through a phone conversation, interview and paid practical trial.

If you're someone who takes pride in becoming genuinely good at what you do, we'd like to hear from you.

Pay: $35.00 – $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25.0 – 35.0 per week

Application Question(s):

  • Are you confident safely driving and manoeuvring both manual and automatic customer vehicles, including in tight car parks and confined work areas?
  • Do you have reliable transport and the ability to travel to our Cardiff base and job locations around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie as required?
  • This role is expected to average approximately 25-35 hours across four weekdays. Are you generally available for this?
  • Are you comfortable performing physical, hands-on work outdoors, including bending, kneeling, reaching, vacuuming and working around water and detailing equipment?
  • Tell us about a practical or technical skill you've become particularly good at. What is it, and how did you learn it?
  • What interests you about vehicles, vehicle detailing, or developing technical skills in this type of work?

Licence/Certification:

  • Australian manual driver's licence (Required)

Work Authorisation:

  • Australia (Required)

Work Location: On the road
