The successful candidate will have previous experience in vehicle maintenance or mechanical repair, with the ability to diagnose faults, use workshop tools and equipment, and complete repairs to a high standard. Experience working with overhead cranes would be advantageous, particularly for candidates familiar with lifting and handling heavy components.
This opportunity would suit a Vehicle Technician, HGV Technician, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Mechanic who is comfortable with physically demanding work and enjoys working in a practical workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out vehicle servicing, maintenance and mechanical repairs.
- Inspect vehicles to identify faults, defects and worn or damaged components.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine the appropriate repair methods.

- Operate overhead cranes where trained and authorised to do so.
- Carry out mechanical inspections and checks to ensure vehicles are safe and fit for purpose.
- Complete repairs and maintenance work efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
- Identify potential issues and report any additional repair requirements.
- Follow workshop procedures, health and safety requirements and safe systems of work.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet workshop priorities and deadlines.
- Undertake overtime and occasional Saturday shifts when required.

The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Vehicle Technician, Vehicle Mechanic, HGV Technician, Commercial Vehicle Technician or in a similar mechanical maintenance role.
- Strong practical mechanical skills and experience carrying out repairs and maintenance.
- The ability to identify mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs.
- Confidence using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.
- A good understanding of vehicle mechanical systems and maintenance procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good time management and the ability to prioritise tasks.
- A reliable, practical and hardworking approach.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience operating or working around overhead cranes.
- Experience handling and lifting heavy mechanical components safely.

- Relevant apprenticeship or time-served experience.
- Experience working on commercial vehicles, HGVs or other heavy vehicles.
- Experience using vehicle lifting equipment and specialist workshop tools.
- Knowledge of vehicle inspection requirements and workshop health and safety procedures.
Physical Requirements & Working Environment
This is a physically demanding, hands-on role involving heavy mechanical work. Candidates must be comfortable undertaking manual tasks throughout the working day, including handling heavy components, working in challenging positions and using workshop equipment.
The role requires good physical stamina, a practical approach to problem-solving and a strong awareness of health and safety when carrying out lifting, handling and repair activities.
Appropriate safe working practices and equipment must be used when handling heavy components and performing physically demanding tasks. Any overhead crane operation must be undertaken only by appropriately trained and authorised personnel.
