What they need

The Ballroom at the Commercial Club is looking for a warm, engaging, highly personable Venue Assistant to help prospective clients imagine what their event could look and feel like in our historic space.

The heart of this role is storytelling.

Giving a great venue tour isn’t about walking through a building and pointing out rooms. It’s about getting to know the people in front of you, understanding what they’re dreaming about, and helping them picture their own wedding or event unfolding here.

We’re looking for someone who can learn the details of the Ballroom, connect naturally with people, ask thoughtful questions, and turn a tour into an experience.

What You’ll Do:

Lead Venue Tours

Tours are the most important part of this position.

You’ll:

  • Welcome prospective clients alongside our Venue Director
  • Ask questions and learn what matters most to each client
  • Take notes on their vision, priorities, guest count, and needs
  • Lead them through the Ballroom and its surrounding spaces
  • Explain how different areas can be used for their specific event
  • Help clients picture the flow and experience of their wedding or celebration
  • Answer standard venue questions and know when to bring the Venue Director into the conversation

Our Venue Director handles pricing, packages, contracts, negotiations, and closing the sale. Your job is to make the space come alive.

Client Follow-Up

Outside of tours, most of this role can be completed remotely.

You’ll help:

  • Respond to routine new-client inquiries using our established systems
  • Follow up with prospective clients after tours
  • Send scheduling links and information
  • Keep lead notes organized
  • Update and maintain our CRM
  • Track who needs a follow-up and make sure no promising lead disappears
  • Flag clients who are ready for a pricing or booking conversation with the Venue Director

Schedule

Approximately 12 hours per week.

The primary in-person schedule is:

Mondays: 2:00–6:00 PM
Wednesdays: 2:00–6:00 PM

These hours are primarily reserved for venue tours.

The remaining approximately 4 hours per week can generally be completed remotely and flexibly for client follow-up, messages, and CRM management.

Who We’re Looking For

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Are naturally warm and engaging with new people
  • Are a strong storyteller
  • Can ask thoughtful questions and actually listen to the answers
  • Enjoy helping people imagine possibilities
  • Are comfortable speaking confidently in front of individuals and small groups
  • Communicate clearly in person, by text, and by email
  • Are organized enough to keep track of leads and follow-up
  • Can work independently from home
  • Are dependable and punctual
  • Learn information quickly and can explain it conversationally rather than sounding scripted
  • Are comfortable using or learning a CRM and Google Workspace

You do not need extensive wedding or sales experience.

Experience in theater, performance, public speaking, hospitality, customer service, communications, education, tours, or other people-facing work is a major plus.

Theater experience especially interests us because this role requires presence, adaptability, storytelling, and the ability to read a room.

How to Apply

Please send an email directly to [email protected] with the subject line:

Venue Assistant – Your Name

In your email, please tell include a time you intentionally went out of your way to connect with someone you didn’t already know. What made you start the conversation, and what did you take away from it?

It can be something big or small. We’re looking for people who genuinely enjoy getting to know others, can make strangers feel comfortable, and are curious about the people around them.

There’s no perfect answer, and no formal cover letter is needed. We’re much more interested in getting a sense of who you are, how you communicate, and how you connect with people.

Please also attach your résumé.

We’re looking for someone who can walk into a beautiful empty ballroom with a couple and help them leave already picturing the flowers, the music, their family in the room, and what their wedding could feel like there.
