What they need

The Ballroom at The Commercial Club is looking for warm, dependable Venue Hostesses to help care for our weddings and events.

This is primarily an event-hosting position. You’ll receive a full handoff from our in-house wedding planner, prepare for each assigned event, and then serve as the venue’s main point person during the event.

We’re specifically looking for people who want a reliable side job and can commit to a small recurring schedule long-term.

What You’ll Do

  1. Host Weddings & Events

This is the most important part of the role.

For each assigned event, you will:

  • Spend approximately 2 paid hours preparing for the event
  • Review the timeline, floor plan, vendors, arrival times, and client details
  • Arrive knowing the event plan
  • Welcome clients, wedding parties, and vendors
  • Serve as the venue-side point person during the event
  • Answer venue-related questions
  • Watch for issues and step in when needed
  • Communicate calmly when plans change
  • Help clients feel cared for throughout the event
  • Complete a brief event recap afterward

Events are paid hourly with a minimum of 9 paid event hours per event, and many events run longer.

  1. Help with Venue Tours

Each hostess will also work one recurring weekday shift at the Ballroom.

Part of that shift may include helping with venue tours. You’ll:

  • Walk prospective clients through the space
  • Learn what they’re envisioning
  • Help them picture how their event could work here
  • Explain the venue naturally and confidently
  • Answer standard venue questions

Our Venue Director handles pricing, packages, contracts, and closing the sale. Your role is to help the space come alive.

Schedule

This position is designed to be a consistent side job, not on-call event work.

Regular commitments include:

  • Approximately one weekend event every other week
  • Minimum 9 paid event hours per assigned event
  • Approximately 2 paid preparation hours per assigned event
  • One recurring weekday venue shift each week (7 hours)
  • One recurring weekly remote team meeting (1 hour)

Additional weekday and weekend events will often be available, and you may pick up more shifts as your schedule allows.

We are specifically looking for candidates who can reliably commit to the core schedule.

Who We’re Looking For

You may be a great fit if you are:

  • Warm and personable
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Calm under pressure
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Observant and proactive
  • Good at noticing what needs attention
  • Confident communicating with clients and vendors
  • Comfortable meeting new people
  • Able to learn details quickly
  • Professional without feeling stiff
  • Flexible when plans change
  • Looking for a long-term side job rather than full-time work

Experience in weddings, hospitality, events, theater, customer service, public speaking, education, tours, or other people-facing work is helpful, but extensive event experience is not required.

We can teach you our venue and systems. We care most about finding someone who is dependable, prepared, personable, and willing to take ownership.

How to Apply

In addition to applying through Indeed, please email [email protected] with the subject line: Venue Hostess – Your Name

Then, in 2–4 sentences, answer:

What is one small thing you do to make people feel taken care of?

No formal cover letter is needed. We’re much more interested in getting a sense of who you are, what you notice, and how you think about hospitality.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8.0 – 24.0 per week

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule

Ability to Commute:
