About Us IAG Defence & National Security (DNS) is part of IAG, a specialist advisory firm supporting complex infrastructure, Defence and national security programs across Australia. Our DNS team works closely with Commonwealth agencies and industry partners to deliver specialist expertise into nationally significant programs. Our success depends on our ability to identify, engage and mobilise highly specialised talent quickly and effectively. IAG is recognised as a Veteran Friendly Employer under the Veteran Employment Program.
The Role We're looking for an experienced Verification and Validation Engineer to support the planning and conduct of a test program for a major Defence capability upgrade in South Australia. You'll apply specific domain experience to verify that the upgraded system and its subsystems meet functional performance specifications before integration and operational release.
The role bridges systems engineering, design assurance and test execution, making sure verification evidence is complete, traceable and defensible. It's office and lab-based, with significant periodic travel to test sites to support test execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain verification and validation plans, defining verification methods (analysis, inspection, demonstration, test) against functional performance specifications and the verification cross-reference matrix
- Review and approve test procedures for integration, factory, site and operational acceptance testing, ensuring traceability to specified requirements
- Support the conduct of the test program, including integration and test events and site trials
- Apply specific system domain knowledge to identify test risks, coverage gaps and anomalies during test execution
- Analyse test results against acceptance criteria, document verification outcomes, and support root cause analysis and corrective action for test failures and non-conformances
- Coordinate test activities and evidence exchange with industry partners and Commonwealth test authorities
- Maintain verification status accounting, ensuring evidence packages are complete and audit-ready to support design reviews
- Support test readiness reviews, with technical input on procedure adequacy, test asset availability and safety considerations
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test procedures and verification methodology across the test program
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in verification and validation or test and evaluation roles on complex defence systems
- Experience developing test procedures and executing tests on complex mission or management systems
- Working knowledge of verification methods, traceability and test documentation practices, including requirements tools such as DOORS or Jama
- Ability to interpret functional performance specifications and translate them into executable test procedures and acceptance criteria
- Experience with test and evaluation on system upgrade or modernisation programs highly regarded
- Experience supporting acceptance testing or test events on operational systems highly regarded
- Familiarity with Defence test and evaluation and acceptance certification processes highly regarded
- Experience working within a multi-vendor industry team supporting a Commonwealth-led test program highly regarded
