Veterinary Technology Educator / Attending Veterinarian (DVM)

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Phoenix Campus) | 100% On-Site

Compensation: Up to $58.51 per hour

Position Summary

Enjoy the best of both worlds—classroom education and hands-on clinical practice with exceptional work-life balance! Pima Medical Institute is seeking a compassionate, experienced Veterinarian (DVM/VMD) to join our Phoenix campus faculty team.

In this dual-impact role, you will inspire and train the next generation of veterinary technicians while overseeing patient care, performing core clinical/surgical procedures, and managing the campus animal care facility. Enjoy standard Monday-through-Friday business hours with no evening emergencies or weekend shifts, supported by a full sign-on bonus, professional development allowances, and employee ownership equity.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Facility Management:

  • Veterinary Care & VCPR: Provide medical and surgical care for program animals under an established Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR); oversee husbandry and general animal welfare.
  • Managing Veterinarian: Serve as the managing veterinarian under the program’s state premise license; maintain an active DEA registration to oversee controlled substance inventory and compliance.
  • IACUC & Attending Veterinarian: Serve as the IACUC’s "Attending Veterinarian," actively participating in semiannual IACUC meetings and facility evaluations.
  • Regulatory Recordkeeping: Maintain complete, accurate medical records adhering strictly to AZVMEB, AVMA CVTEA, USDA, and ABHES standards; oversee medical, pharmaceutical, and lab supply ordering.

Instructional Leadership & Student Mentorship:

  • Lecture & Lab Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lectures and practical clinical/surgical demonstrations in alignment with curriculum standards.
  • Skill Assessments: Assess student hands-on skill competencies, utilizing evaluation checklists to confirm readiness for field entry.
  • Academic Administration: Maintain accurate grade records, document student progress, enforce professionalism standards (attendance, dress code, conduct), and coordinate guest speakers or clinical field trips.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited institution.
  • Licensure & Registration: Active, unencumbered license to practice veterinary medicine in Arizona (AZVMEB); ability to obtain/maintain a DEA registration and serve as managing veterinarian under the state premise license.
  • Clinical Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of practical occupational experience as a veterinarian, including proficiency in basic surgical and medical procedures.
  • Technical Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills; computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and electronic veterinary medical record systems.

Compensation & Employee-Owner Incentives

  • Compensation: Up to $51.58 per hour
  • Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 Sign-On Bonus.
  • Relocation & CE Perks: Relocation assistance available; professional dues allowance and paid Continuing Education (CE) coverage.
  • Pet Care Benefit: No-cost personal pet care privileges.
  • Employee Ownership: Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Retirement: 401(k) Plan with up to a 10% Employer Match.
  • Healthcare Options: Comprehensive Medical (PPO & 2 HDHP options with HSA), Dental, and Vision coverage.
  • Financial Protection: Basic Life Insurance, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, HSA, and FSA options.
  • Work-Life & Growth: Paid Time Off (PTO), Arizona Paid Sick Leave, Paid Holidays, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and Health & Wellness Program rewards.
