Veterinary Assistant

Position Overview

Encino Park Veterinary Clinic is seeking a reliable and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and veterinary technicians with daily patient care and clinical operations.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with animals, communicates well with clients and coworkers, and can stay organized in a busy veterinary environment. The Veterinary Assistant will help prepare patients and treatment areas, maintain a clean clinical environment, and support the veterinary team throughout appointments and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during patient examinations and treatments.
• Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats as directed by clinical staff.
• Prepare examination and treatment areas before appointments.
• Clean and disinfect exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels and veterinary equipment.
• Help maintain appropriate supplies in examination and treatment areas.
• Assist with patient intake and collect basic information for the veterinary team.
• Support patient movement between examination, treatment and hospitalization areas.
• Prepare equipment and supplies for routine procedures.
• Assist with laboratory sample preparation and other basic clinical support duties as assigned.
• Monitor animal comfort and promptly communicate concerns to appropriate medical staff.
• Help maintain accurate patient information and documentation.
• Follow clinic sanitation, safety and infection-control procedures.
• Provide courteous assistance to clients when appropriate.
• Work cooperatively with veterinarians, technicians, receptionists and other team members.
• Complete additional animal-care and clinic-support responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous animal care or veterinary experience is preferred but not required for all candidates.
• Genuine interest in animal health and welfare.
• Ability to safely work around dogs and cats of different sizes and temperaments.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to remain professional in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn veterinary practice systems.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to perform physical duties associated with veterinary patient care.

Preferred Background

Candidates with previous experience in an animal hospital, veterinary clinic, boarding facility, kennel, animal shelter or other animal-care environment are encouraged to apply. Candidates developing a career in veterinary medicine may also be considered based on their skills and ability to learn.

Work Environment

This is an in-person position at Encino Park Veterinary Clinic in San Antonio, Texas. Team members work directly with animals and may regularly encounter animal hair, cleaning products, medical equipment and typical veterinary-hospital conditions.

The clinic provides veterinary services including preventive care, diagnostics, dentistry, surgery, pharmacy services and supervised hospitalization.

Pay: $3,900.00 - $4,100.00 per month
