Veterinary Assistant II

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and possess the necessary skills to support veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to our patients. This role involves assisting with various tasks in a veterinary clinic, ensuring the well-being of animals, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with initial admit of surgery patients
• Assist with pre-medicating and inducing surgery patients
• Prepare surgery suites for surgeon before/after each surgery
• Clean the surgical instruments after each surgery
• Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian, ensuring proper dosages and techniques.
• Provide basic nursing care for animals, including monitoring vital signs and observing behavioral changes.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the veterinary clinic, including kennels and treatment areas.
• Utilize aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection.
• Handle dogs and other animals safely and effectively, ensuring their comfort throughout their visit.
• Support veterinary critical care efforts by monitoring patients post-procedure or during treatment.
• Educate pet owners on proper animal care practices, including nutrition and medication administration.

Experience

• Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with animal physiology and behavior is advantageous.
• Knowledge of kennel operations and management is a plus.
• Experience with equine handling is beneficial for those interested in working with larger animals.
