Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

Hartschuh Veterinary Services is a busy, 3 doctor veterinary practice in New Washington, Ohio. We offer farm animal and companion animal services to our clients and take pride in practicing high quality, individualized medicine and compassionate care.

As a valued member of our team, you will get to experience a wide range of patients and medicine. A typical day at the clinic includes small animal surgery, small animal wellness appointments, small animal sick appointments, farm animal wellness appointments, farm animal sick appointments, and urgent and emergency appointments for large animals. We also regularly perform surgery on pigs and goats in clinic and occasionally see some exotics.

We are looking for a person who is passionate about animal medicine and caring for animals as well as their owners. We are seeking to hire a veterinary assistant to join our team.

Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist’s Regular Duties

· Assist with animal procedures such as blood draws

· Properly preparing laboratory samples

· Assisting with radiographs

· Checking in patients and discharging patients

· Maintaining patient records using computerized medical records

· Administering medications as directed by the veterinarian

· Taking patient vitals

· Answering phones

· Filling medications

· Proper animal restraint

· Answering client questions

· Other duties as assigned

Important Skills and Requirements

· High School diploma or equivalent (required)

· One year of previous vet assistant experience (preferred)

· Good oral and written communication skills

· Professional demeanor

· Basic knowledge of computer systems—knowledge of DaySmart Vet software is a plus!

· Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and stand / be active for 8 hours;

· Ability to work and be on time for assigned shifts

· Ability to work as a team

· Ability to work efficiently under stressful or chaotic conditions

Benefits

Hartschuh Veterinary Services offers 5 days of paid vacation and 3 days of paid sick time for full-time employees (>30 hours / week) annually, both available after 6 months of employment. Full time employees are also eligible for cost sharing on our Health Insurance program and to participate in our Simple IRA program. Routine veterinary care is provided at cost for those pets that live with our employees.

Applicants with experience in the veterinary field may be paid at a higher rate.
