At our Manchester referral hospital, we are proud to offer a well-established ECC Internship programme. Interns join a multi-disciplinary hospital environment, supported by residency-trained and board-certified ECC clinicians, and gain hands-on experience in a well-equipped ICU.

Role Overview

This 12-month internship is designed for veterinarians seeking to strengthen their skills in emergency and critical care, whether as preparation for residency applications or to deepen clinical confidence in ECC practice. We would be looking for the successful intern to join the team on the Monday 5th April 2027.

The role is primarily based in the ICU, managing emergency referrals, with a rolling rota and no on-call duties. Interns will engage in clinical work, structured training, and collaborative case discussions with a strong focus on patient care and professional development.

  • Uphold high standards of clinical care, professionalism, and animal welfare.

Requirements

To apply, you must have:

  • A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS.

  • Eligibility or registration with the RCVS.

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and record-keeping skills.

  • The ability to remain calm, prioritise, and perform effectively under pressure.

  • A compassionate, professional, and reliable approach.

Preferred (not essential):

  • Completion of a Small Animal Rotating Internship in a multi-disciplinary referral hospital.

Benefits

  • Salary: £35,000 per annum

  • Professional Costs Covered: VDS and RCVS registration fees

  • Leave: 7 weeks annual leave, plus your birthday off

  • Learning & Development:

  • Allocated time for externships

  • Inclusion in IVC Evidensia ECC Specialty Group meetings (case discussions and journal clubs)

  • Additional CPD/conference allowance

  • Mentorship: Dedicated clinical mentor to support your training, research, and professional growth
