What they need

Overview
If you enjoy building deep relationships with clients, practicing high-touch medicine as part of a thriving team of veterinary professionals, and make a significant impact on patient well-being, you might excel in a privately owned practice.

Ghent and Granby Veterinary Hospital is an independent, AAHA-accredited practice with a new flagship hospital on Granby Street in Norfolk. Our mission is to practice the highest-quality medicine in the lowest-stress environment possible for pets and their people.

Our original Ghent hospital became AAHA-accredited in 2016, and our new 8,000 sq ft flagship on Granby Street earned AAHA accreditation in 2025. We practice progressive medicine, including Fear Free visits, dentistry, surgery, acupuncture, laser therapy, pain management, and hospice care, backed by modern diagnostics and technology.

Our model leverages a highly skilled team of LVTs and veterinary assistants so our doctors can focus on medicine. Our client experience is supported by customizable wellness plans and a client services team that includes virtual assistants. You'll work directly with ownership, with no corporate layers or approval chains.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced leader to run day-to-day operations at our Granby Vet flagship location and help shape what comes next. The scope and compensation of this role will reflect your background and experience.

At its core, this position is responsible for:

  • Leading and developing our support team, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management, and growing our tiered career paths for assistants and technicians.
  • Overseeing daily operations, client experience, and patient flow so our doctors and LVTs can work at the top of their licenses.
  • Managing the budget, tracking key financial and production metrics, and controlling inventory and expenses.
  • Maintaining HR, safety, and AAHA standards compliance.
  • Partnering with ownership and our doctors on growth initiatives

An Opportunity to Build

After opening Granby, we temporarily closed our original Ghent location, and we're ready to bring it back. Candidates with experience opening a new practice, leading a relocation or expansion, or managing multiple locations will be considered for an expanded Hospital Administrator role. That scope includes leading the Ghent reopening: licensing and facility readiness, recruiting the opening team (including a veterinarian), and relaunching a hospital with an existing, loyal community following.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of management experience in a veterinary or healthcare practice. Strong operators from human medical or dental practices are also encouraged to apply.
  • A track record of building and retaining strong teams and a commitment to staff development.
  • Comfort with financial reporting, budgets, and practice metrics.
  • Clear, steady communication with staff, doctors, and clients.
  • CVPM credential or progress toward it is a plus. (We support certification for the right candidate).
  • For the expanded multi-site role: Hands-on experience opening a hospital/clinic or managing more than one location.

Compensation and Benefits

Base Salary: 75,000 - 95,000 for a traditional Practice Manager; up to $125,000 plus launch milestone bonuses for candidates with multi-site or practice-opening experience.

  • Annual performance bonus.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with 70% of premiums employer-paid, plus an HSA option.
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance (100% employer-paid), plus life insurance.
  • Paid time off, holiday pay, and paid parental leave.
  • CE and professional development support, including CVPM certification and tuition reimbursement.
  • Employee assistance program, employee pet care discount, and referral bonuses.
  • Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.
